Event-0.87 errors in test for var

Hi,

I am having the same symptoms described in perl.loop  articles 866 and 867,
and in 876 the author alludes to a patch available for Event-0.86.
I am building Event-0.87 (current on CPAN) on HP/UX and have Perl 5.6.1
installed.

Does someone know what the fix is or how to apply a patch, and where to get the
patch?

I am new to perl and the environment.
