Summary: rename freezes machine

Initial Comment:
If the file to be renamed is locked, the rename fails and the 
machine freezes (can't get out of it with force quit or MacsBug), 
and I can't get a stack trace with MacsBug.  I've not yet attempted 
to run it through with the MW debugger.
