Perl 5.8.0 was released today, so I figure a quick update on what is going
on with MacPerl is in order.

There are various bugs in MacPerl 5.6.1 and GUSI that are in the process of
being fixed. When they are, MacPerl 5.6.1r2 will be released. Most of
those bugs also apply to MacPerl 5.8, which is at a2 (alpha 2).

There are some new bugs in MacPerl 5.8, plus we want to add a few small new
features (including possibly UI enchancements from Thomas Wegner), and
those will be added after these other bugs are dealt with; at that point, I
plan to release MacPerl 5.8.0 into beta. There may be another alpha or two
in the meantime, depending on how things go. And, of course, the beta
cycle will last as long as we think is necessary.

If you have any unreported bugs for MacPerl, now is the time to report them.

For those waiting for bugfixes, I apologize for how long it is taking;
spring brings new life, summer breeds busy-ness, and sometimes along the
path, work gets in the way, too. :-)
