Yep, agreed. But that was a stress test, not a real world situation. After all, it depends on the pod's file size (try to open monster modules like CGI.pm a few times :). However, when I'm desperately looking for an information, I may end up with many open windows (I do occasionally :).

Minimum 768 KB (without virtual memory on 1033 KB)
Default 1024 KB (without virtual memory on 1289 KB)

Low enough? Note that even "old" Shuck uses temporary memory, i.e. the WASTE text engine allocates (most of) its memory not in Shuck's heap but from the free memory pool. So it may use more memory than the assigned memory partition (but you will never notice unless you are watching the "About this Macintosh" dialog box). However, there's always a price you have to pay. And you have the option to change the memory settings or use good old Shuck v1.4. Btw, I remember that my old System 7.1 uses about 1 MB of memory at one time, wheras it's hard to use less than 20 MB RAM for my Mac OS 8.6 ;-).
