For the sake of clarification: perl 6 is a complete and total rewrite of
perl.  See http://dev.perl.org/ for more information (there's quite a bit
of good information there; see especially the Apocalypses and Exegeses, and
note that Apocalypse 3 is due soon).

perl 5.8.0 is the next version of perl.  It is being developed now, and
could be released before year's end.  After MacPerl 5.6 is released and
stable, I will move on to porting perl 5.8.0.  It will be a *much* shorter
development cycle in all liklihood.  We've already done test builds of
MacPerl on the codebase.  We probably won't need to change any of the app
or glue code; it will just be porting modules and tests etc., for the most
part.
