I've never used a midi setup with linux, but I'd imagine that serial device
shows up as a device in /dev, you could just sysread() it, for how many
bytes - I do not know, and get the sysex dump, then just decode the data.

I don't have an algorithm on hand to help you decode that data (and, I
think, most keyboards have their own ways of constructing sysex messages)
but, the format of MIDI is rather well described here:
