intro & questions

Happy thanksgiving, yall.  First, so that you don't have to bother looking
down at the signature, my name is Jackie (female version), & I am a
developer for a musical instrument company.  I initially tried midiRexx to
do what I needed done, but it was pretty buggy & I was eventually forced to
abandon it.  I know virtually nothing about perl, though I've programmed
quite a bit in C (for DOS), & it seems like there are many similarities.  so
I guess my questions really boil down to:
a)  Can midi Perl be used to insert controller messages into a midi file?; &
b)  Where in *blazes* do I start?

BTW, I also happen to be blind, so if you suggest some reading materials,
it'd be helpful if they were in computerized format, e.g., text, Word, PDF,
Microsoft Ebook reader (not owner exclusive), etc.
