Hi,

I sent out this question a while ago, but didn't receive any responses. I
was wondering wether anybody has some tips on how to start finding out on
how to generate MIDI through a web interface? (Also see my original message
below.)

Thanks so much.

Hi everyone,

Being a newbie to this list, I am very excited to have just found out about
MIDI-Perl! Here's what I would like to do -- and if anyone of you has
experience with this, or knows where I can find more information, then I'd
love to get some tips -->

Based on data retrieved through a web interface, I would like to load MIDI
as the background sound in a hidden frame, where the MIDI is generated
through a call to a Perl script. So, I am looking to do something along the
lines of:

<BGSOUND SRC="cgi-bin/play-midi.pl?midistring">

where 'midistring' is a string that contains the information to feed into
the Perl script, which will then translate that into parameters for
MIDI-Perl.

I am very eager to start figuring out the exact details of how to do this,
but if anyone of you already knows that this will never work for some
reason, then I want to hear that of course. Do you know where I might be
able to find more information on this web-midi-interface construction that I
want to work out?

Thanks so much for any help,

- Erik

(In case you're wondering what I need this for: I have a web site that gives
you chords and scales for Guitar and Piano, and I would like to add the
functionality of hearing any selection as well: http://www.looknohands.com/
)
