Thanks Tim.

Unfortunately I had no luck at midiox's site. The main Midiox download
link would not connect and a mid2tex utility link yielded a corrupt zip
file. One of those days - I'll try again.

However, not to be beaten, google came up with http://www.gnmidi.com/
which has a wide array of MIDI DOS utilities. Amongst which I found:
midi2txt.exe - which does what is needed.
