And it fails this same way on 0.2808 too, so I guess it's status-quo and
therefore doesn't need to block the release.
On my system, fail is somewhere between /tmp/foo/75 and /tmp/foo/86.

So malloc calls a timeout and starts rummaging around the free chain,
sorting things out, and merging adjacent small free blocks into larger
blocks. This takes 3 1/2 days.
