No, the fight was because you weren't really trying to be compatible at
that point, more "inspired by".
Hence Mouse.
Personally, I'd suggest you consider contributing to Mouse - it's much more
robust, cleanly designed code than Coat and because of the meta compatibility
the upgrade path is much cleaner.
