Compiling

Whilst attempting to compile perl1 on a fairly recent gnuish
platform, Configure choked on the lack of a C preprocessor
it liked.

I found that everything works fine if you add the "-traditional"
flag on cpp.  That is, if Configure says -
  "No dice. I can't find a C preprocessor. Name one:"
just type
  cpp -traditional
