Obtaining holdings data from library catalogs

Everyone on this list is way beyond me in terms of Perl and knowledge of library standards, but I thought this would be a good place to ask. Through z39.50 you can get the bib record only, right? Is there a way to pull in holdings information as well? Anyone know anything about z39.71? I want to create a a small WorldCat application but I don't know how to access holdings data.
 
Please email, if anyone has done this. I'd really appreciate any help, even a link to something useful.
