I didn't say it should be deprecated if it's hard to support.

I said it shouldn't be deprecated, except possibly if supporting it causes
us problems (which was the rationale given for deprecating "$[").

Exactly. Perl shouldn't tell you you can't use the feature anymore because
it might be a burden for you.
