In fact on that very note, I intend to begin my plan of managing all
the `defer-next-dev` PRs tomorrow, so expect a sudden flood of merges
to begin. If there are any conflicts along the way I'll do my best to
fix them up, but if I can't sort them I'll send them back to the
original authors.

Also note the wording above - "in the following weeks". I expect there
will be *such* a churn of activity from this, that it will make sense
to cut a 5.45.1 release a lot earlier than the usual 1-month away. This
will also help us catch back up with our usual yearly release cycle,
which as you'll note is now two months delayed this time.
