I just pushed https://github.com/Perl/perl5/pull/24716 which includes some
extensions to h2xs to automate some common processes, and a new wrapper
script to present a more beginner friendly API, hiding most of the
intimidating and beginner-cryptic options that h2xs exposes and presenting
options that default to how a beginner/pure-perl developer would expect
them (For instance defaulting to -AX mode in h2xs).

I realize there are other tools out there on CPAN, blah blah, I think we
should bundle something makes beginners comfortable, and I for one wouldn't
mind it if the default tools did the post-h2xs git-init dance for me if I
request it. I was really impressed with rust's cargo tool, which seemed to
me to be a much more polished version of h2xs.

I haven't played with this too much yet, its just a draft, but i thought id
throw it up there and see what folks think while i polish it.
