I was arguing for a cleaner looking generic alternative for "()=", the now defunct list() operator. I do think that just adding a new regex modifier, just because "()=" is ugly, is a bit over the top. If "()=" is not considered ugly enough to be replaced in the general case, then it doesn't warrant adding a new regex modifier just to replace it in this one specific case either. How often do you intend to count matches without doing anything with it, anyway? -- Bart.
