Just a note - Notepad++ is not only free-as-in-beer, but it is also Free and 
Open Source Software (FOSS), whose source code is available under a free 
licence. See:

It is, however, MS-Windows-only, but should run fine under wine and possibly 
also compile fine with libwine. In any case, it is worth mentioning.
