Have you considered using fly (until someone does)? The RISC OS version is available from http://www.w3perl.com/fly/fly-1.6.5.RiscOS.zip Other precompiled versions and full source are also available from http://www.w3perl.com/fly/ It's based on the GD library and uses a command file based interface to create GIFs (which is quite easy to do, esp if you open fly as a process and write the neccessary commands straight to it). I haven't used it for ages, ISTR it being quite straightforward.
