I posted the following to csap:

Since I upgraded to RISC OS 4, simple Perl scripts sometimes freeze my
machine completely (most often, even the mouse pointer can't move any
longer).

The last time, I typed something like

  *script arg > raFS::tmp.$.filename

I could retrieve the file, and only the first &E00 characters of the
output were written to it (the remaining was garbage), the last written
character being at the middle of a line.

fsck tells me that the map is good.

A few days ago, the machine froze at a line

  open FLY, "|fly ..." or die;

in a Perl script.

I have:

*perl -v

Is there a version compatible with RISC OS 4?
