Could someone please help me to develop a script that takes a file from FTP

Hi

I am trying to develop a perl script that takes a image from FTP, say 
pic.jpg, and rename the image to the date of the image. The pic.jpg is a 
image coming from Camera. so the image content changes every few minutes. 
this is why i would like to take the image, and change its name and then 
place the image in a new directory.

I am a begineer to PERL, but i really want to see how this is done, so if 
someone can bear with me and help me a bit it would really be appreciated.
