This is basically what I do with PerlMagic. Although some people don't
like the file's download size (I could chop it up), most Win32 people find
it a tremendous benefit over utilities like VPM/PPM (ActiveState) and CPAN
(everybody but Win32), the former of which works once in a while, and the
latter can be quite annoying if you don't WANT to upgrade your _entire_
perl system (some of the newest Linux distros are shipping with 5.005 and
avoiding 5.6). This is also how I keep track of what modules people use
("call it market research"). I think you'd be amazed at some of the
ancient modules that people insist on, and some of the new ones that
people have little use (or tolerance, it seems) for.
