Oh I didn't know you had perl 5.8 ... App::perlbrew would be a simple, non intrusive way of upgrading just. http://search.cpan.org/dist/App-perlbrew/ perlbrew init perlbrew install perl-5.12.1 -D=useithreads perlbrew switch perl-5.12.1 cpan/pip the stuff again.
