Hi,

I am Will Morse. I teach perl at the Geoscience
Technology Training Center (GTTC) at North Harris
College, which is part of the North Harris Montgomery
Community College System.

The people I train are generally over 30 and work in
the petroleum exploration business. I do get others
from time to time.

My class emphasizes using perl in the scientific
petroleum exploration business, so we do a lot with
trig, binary files, sysread/syswrite, and other functions
that probably don't get as much attention in, say,
a CGI oriented perl class. On the other hand, we don't
cover much in sockets, fork, report writing, and other
topics that a more specific systems administration class
would cover.

The class is 24 contact hours, continuing education. I
usually teach it two evenings a week, four hours at a
sitting, for three weeks. We spend about half the time
on lab work. My classroom has six dual monitor exploration
class workstations (Sun Ultra 2's). I can take up to
12 students, but 8 is a more common number.

I also teach Intermediate Unix, shell scripting (ksh + awk),
Advanced Topics in Unix (DMAPI, NDMP, LDAP, PAM, etc.) and
I am teaching a security class this spring if it makes.

I am looking forward to hearing what other perl trainers have
to say and sharing experiences.
