We only teach one Perl class at our company, and I only have numbers for
the last few runs, but they look something like this:

            Male       Female     Total
1/2000       14           4          18
6/1999       15           1          16
3/1999       10           2          12
9/1998       25           1          26  
5/1998       18           1          19

Oddly enough, though, the last few webfactory projects I worked on at
Ford had an overwhemlimg majority of female Perl programmers.  6/2, 7/1
and 5/2 females to males.[1]  Most of the people we're training came out
of and went back into these webfactory pools, and I'm at a loss to
explain the discrepancy.  Maybe the females are self-taught?  Maybe our
hiring manager discriminates?  I don't really know.





[1] Being Lead Developer and Resident Perl Geek for these projects was
nice.  I was often accused of managing a harem.  A nice job, if you can
get it.[2]
