Uh huh.  So I guess only machine language is permitted.

Dubious analogy.

I think what's really going on is, the problems posed are
designed -- perhaps not intentionally -- to be challenging
when attacked with certain low-level languages.
This is legitimate, of course.  But in a world with
approachable and widely deployed high-level languages
like Perl, one wonders how relevant such a contest is.

And I wonder which, if any, other languages have been
similarly banned.
