I think I follow you, but not completely.

If you mean something like the way my WebTechniques columns tackle a
different practical example each month, then perhaps you missed my
"Practical Web Programming" course, which is the best 10 to 15 of
those presented live, with a line-by-line code walkthrough.

No trite examples.  Real code solving a real problem.  Well, problems
that can be solved in less than 200 lines of Perl, anyway. :)
