Hi Will, and welcome to the perl-trainers list :) I guess I'll do an
intro too.
My name's Kirrily, also (for no very good reason) known as Skud, and I
teach Perl professionally through my own company, Netizen, based in
Melbourne, Australia. We run public (open enrolment) courses every
couple of months in Melbourne and somewhat less often in other
Australian cities, as well as on-site/corporate training for various
organisations. We've just started doing Unix training as well (I'd
love to swap notes with Will off-list sometime) and will be
progressively adding courses such as Apache web server administration,
Programming fundamentals, Internet fundamentals, Database fundamentals,
web authoring, and more.
The sorts of things I'd really love to discuss on this list include:
How do you advertise/publicise your courses?
What requirements/prerequisites do you set for your courses?
What sort of course materials do you use?
What platforms do you teach Perl on?
Do you teach any third-party software with Perl?
What do you find hardest to teach about Perl?
Do you use analogies and metaphors, anthropomorphisation, puppet shows?
Do you get your trainees to evaluate your training? What do you ask?
... and probably a heap more :) I thought I'd throw those questions out
into the ring and follow up with my own answers. Other subscribers
might like to answer as well, by way of an introduction.
