THANK YOU!!! That was all the hint I needed.

* Put strawberry path elements up front and suddenly gcc works
* Searched my drive (because my old "which.exe" no longer works on x64 :( ) for 
gcc.exe -- found it in the FPC (Free Pascal) folder
* Moved FPC to the end of the PATH

ALL IS WELL. Hooray! :) :)
