If you're taking the L north to shop, and you have specific needs (ie
you're not just looking for peanut butter and sardines) it may be worth
your while to go to Chinatown and shop there.  From IIT, just go north on
the Green Line, transfer to the Red Line at Roosevelt going south, and get
off at the next station (Cermak/Chinatown).  Some write-ups are at:
