Want a passport, medical assistance of any > kind, borrow from a public library, pay taxes, enroll in education > facility - need a CPR number. We have a social insurance number that you need to open a bank account or get a job. It relates to income tax stuff, anything you would require a tax form for (income, whether employment or public money, investments, tuition). But you don't need it for the other stuff like passports etc. I used to follow a tax froup on usenet years ago. I helped out filing tax returns for low-income seniors at the time. An accountant used to post all these hilarilous stories from the time he worked at the Revenue Agency. He said that people could cheat the system by filing their taxes without the SIN number and they would be issued a new one. When a record linkage project started up at work, one of the methodologists was blown away that someone in the tax database had 15 SIN numbers. there's a saying that nothing is fool-proof because fools are often ingenious. > >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> I'll try not to focus on that when I don't pay for >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> doctors or prescriptions or when it costs me $10 to >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> get my teeth cleaned. >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> He-he.
