How to peel a boiled egg

  ("A" boiled egg, silly, not "an". ;/ Editing error.)

Someone told me to let them simmer for 12 minutes, plunge them into ice 
water and wait 15 minutes, then crack the larger end open first.

It didn't work. Baking soda didn't work, nor vinegar.
