JJC issues emergency order for building demolition
Today, the city government ordered a building on the north west side of Manhattan island to be demolished immediately
The 4 story brick building was damaged during the recent North Sea quake, and area residents this morning reported hearing cracking and sifting noises coming from it.
The city brought in the wrecking ball, a method that is rarely used these days, and tore down the building.
It had been fenced off with a plywood fence scince the quake, and the owner was hoping it could be restored, but 2 days ago the building was determined to be too badly damaged for repair. It was sceduled for demolition late next week.
