<http://kym.massbus.org/TESS/PANORAMA/s23/WHITEDOT/> I was just skimming through things going to the PANORAMA pages getting set up on my massbus web-page when I came across a short sequence of TESS images showing a moving white dot. This is a first with this dataset. I've many times seen stars in a line blink out briefly but have not seen a moving bright object in successive frames. In this case ~15 frames taken over approx 8h of TESS time. It was the first seq I took a close look at so maybe there will be many more. The dot appears after a period of haze (probably light pollution from the moon or Earth although the images are not flagged with that error-code) and moves slowly in a NE dir in the middle of the top lhs quarter of the image (that is itself one of 64 "dice" created by cutting up the 2kpx x 2kpx fits images from sector 23, camera 1, ccd 1). At one point it jumps a couple dozen pixels I'm pretty sure because mostly images were fetched from the server for every 30m (the TESS cameras run much faster but no need to watch the same spot in space every 30s is there?) and sometimes the camera slows down or the images were not saved on the STSCI web-server. Rough calc show the dot moved around .12 deg over ~8h. If it was in the asteroid belt that's around 200 kps way above orbital speed out there. If it was a CISLUNAR object like TESS I think it's moving way too slow. Anyway. Another stream of junk for the webpages managed by various bots. They say there is a lot to put up there. They might even finish it one day instead of mailing me every 5m about what they plan to do. -- As temperatures soar, `exceptionally serious' drought imperils UK farmers Al Jazeera, 13 Aug 2026 19:02 A punishing European drought shrivels crops from Dutch potatoes to Bosnian corn AP News, 13 Aug 2026 18:58 Russian Strikes on Dozens of Grain Ships Threaten Global Food Supplies The New York Times, 13 Aug 2026 14:52 Ukraine attacks Russian grain export terminals in Black Sea, prompting warning about food markets CNBC, 13 Aug 2026 18:17 Did Cellular Life Begin Twice?
