The C4 Corvette, introduced in 1984, was the first complete redesign of the Corvette since 1963 (the C3 borrowed heavily from the C2).

The C4 Corvette is often credited with bringing the Corvette into the
modern era of performance cars. Its combination of advanced
technology, improved aerodynamics, and enhanced handling set new
standards for American sports cars.
It was developed from the ground up with a new chassis, body, and
interior, which significantly departed from the C3 model.

The C4 was designed with a strong focus on aerodynamics, featuring a
sleek, low-profile body that reduced drag. 
Its drag coefficient was just 0.34, making it one of the most
aerodynamic cars of its time.

One of the standout features of the C4's development was its fully
digital dashboard.  Unfortunately, they were touchy at best, and often
failed.

Still, the C4 was a huge technological leap over the C3.

The 84 C4 rides like it's on rails and is still sought after in the
autocross community.

The L98 engine, introduced in 1985, featured tuned port fuel
injection, gave the Corvette a bite that matched its bark for the
first time in over a decade.

Introduced in 1990, the ZR-1 model was a high-performance variant of
the C4. It featured a Lotus-designed LT5 engine, producing 375
horsepower initially and later upgraded to 405 horsepower.
