In the US, the Second Amendment protects the right to keep and bear 
arms, and all states allow citizens to own and carry firearms for 
self-defense.

It would be frightening to defend your own person or home, and then get 
charged with a crime, instead of the criminals!

The castle doctrine is a legal principle stating that a person in their 
home, vehicle, or workplace has no duty to retreat from an intruder.

They may use reasonable force, including deadly force, in self-defense 
if they reasonably fear imminent death or great bodily harm.
