DEUTERONOMY 11

Love and Obey

1 (Dt 6:5; 10:12) You must love the Lord your God and keep His charge, 
His statutes, His ordinances, and His commandments always. 
2 (Dt 5:24) Know this day that I am not speaking with your children 
who have not known and who have not seen the discipline of the Lord 
your God, His greatness, His mighty hand, and His outstretched arm, 
3 (Dt 7:19) and His signs and His works which He did in the midst of 
Egypt to Pharaoh, the king of Egypt, and to all his land, 
4 (Ex 15:9-10; Ps 106:11) and what He did to the army of Egypt, 
to their horses, and to their chariots, when He made the water 
of the Red Sea to flow over them as they pursued after you, 
and how the Lord utterly destroyed them, 
5 and what He did to you in the wilderness until you came to this place, 
6 (Ps 106:17; Nu 27:3) and what He did to Dathan and Abiram, the sons of 
Eliab, the son of Reuben, when the earth opened its mouth and swallowed 
them up, their households, their tents, and everything that was in their 
possession, in the midst of all Israel. 
7 But your eyes have seen all the great deeds of the Lord which He did.
8 (Jos 1:6-7; Dt 31:23) Therefore you must keep all the commandments 
which I am commanding you today, so that you may be strong and go 
in and possess the land which you are going to possess; 
9 (Ex 3:8; Dt 4:40) and that you may prolong your days in the land 
which the Lord swore to your fathers to give to them 
and to their descendants, a land flowing with milk and honey. 
10 For the land which you are entering to possess 
is not like the land of Egypt from where you came, 
where you sowed your seed and watered it with your foot 
like a vegetable garden, 
11 but the land, which you are entering to possess, is a land of hills
and valleys and drinks water from the rain of heaven, 
12 (1Ki 9:3; Jer 24:6) a land for which the Lord your God cares. 
The eyes of the Lord your God are always on it, from the beginning 
of the year even to the end of the year.
13 (Dt 4:29; 6:17) It will be, if you will diligently obey My commandments 
which I am commanding you today, to love the Lord your God, 
and to serve Him with all your heart and with all your soul, 
14 (Lev 26:4; Dt 28:12) then I will give you the rain of your land
in its season, the early rain and the latter rain, that you may gather 
in your grain and your wine and your oil. 
15 (Dt 6:11; Ps 104:14) I will provide grass in your fields for your 
livestock, that you may eat and be full.
16 (Job 31:27; Dt 8:19) Take heed to yourselves that your heart
be not deceived, and you turn away and serve other gods and worship them. 
17 (Dt 4:26; 6:15) Then the Lord's wrath will be inflamed against you, 
and He will shut up the heavens so that there will be no rain 
and the land will not yield its fruit, and you will quickly perish 
from the good land which the Lord is giving you. 
18 (Ex 13:9; 13:16) Therefore you must fix these words of mine 
in your heart and in your soul, and bind them as a sign on your hand, 
so that they may be as frontlets between your eyes. 
19 (Dt 4:9-10; 6:7) You shall teach them to your children, speaking 
of them when you sit in your house and when you walk by the way, 
when you lie down, and when you rise up. 
20 (Dt 6:9) You shall write them on the doorposts of your house 
and on your gates, 
21 (Ps 72:5; Pr 3:2) so that your days and the days of your children 
may be multiplied in the land which the Lord swore to your fathers 
to give them, as long as the days of heaven on the earth.
22 (Dt 6:17; 10:20) For if you diligently keep all these commandments
which I am commanding you to do-to love the Lord your God, to walk in 
all His ways, and to hold fast to Him- 
23 (Dt 4:38; 9:1) then the Lord will drive out all these nations from 
before you, and you will dispossess nations greater and mightier than you. 
24 (Ex 23:31; Jos 14:9) Every place where the soles of your feet tread 
will be yours. Your border will be from the wilderness to Lebanon,
from the river, the River Euphrates, as far as the Mediterranean Sea. 
25 (Ex 23:27; Dt 7:24) No man will be able to resist you, for the Lord
your God shall lay the fear of you and the dread of you on all the land 
where you shall tread, just as He has spoken to you.
26 (Dt 30:1) See, I am setting before you today a blessing and a curse: 
27 (Dt 28:1-14) the blessing if you obey the commandments of the 
Lord your God, which I am commanding you today, 
28 (Dt 28:15-68) and the curse, if you will not obey the commandments 
of the Lord your God, but turn from the way which I am commanding 
you today, to go after other gods which you have not known. 
29 Now it shall be, when the Lord your God has brought you into the land 
which you are entering to possess, that you shall put the blessing 
on Mount Gerizim and the curse on Mount Ebal. 
30 (Ge 12:6; Jdg 7:1) Are they not on the other side of the Jordan, 
west where the sun goes down, in the land of the Canaanites, 
who dwell in the plain opposite Gilgal, beside the oaks of Moreh? 
31 (Dt 9:1; Jos 1:11) For you will cross over the Jordan to go in to possess 
the land which the Lord your God is giving you, and you will possess it, 
and dwell in it. 
32 (Dt 12:32) You must be careful to do all the statutes and judgments 
which I am setting before you today.

Deuteronomy 11
[1] Therefore thou shalt love the LORD thy God, and keep his charge, and his
statutes, and his judgments, and his commandments, alway.
[2] And know ye this day: for I speak not with your children which have not
known, and which have not seen the chastisement of the LORD your God, his
greatness, his mighty hand, and his stretched out arm,
[3] And his miracles, and his acts, which he did in the midst of Egypt unto
Pharaoh the king of Egypt, and unto all his land;
[4] And what he did unto the army of Egypt, unto their horses, and to their
chariots; how he made the water of the Red sea to overflow them as they
pursued after you, and how the LORD hath destroyed them unto this day;
[5] And what he did unto you in the wilderness, until ye came into this
place;
[6] And what he did unto Dathan and Abiram, the sons of Eliab, the son of
Reuben: how the earth opened her mouth, and swallowed them up, and their
households, and their tents, and all the substance that was in their
possession, in the midst of all Israel:
[7] But your eyes have seen all the great acts of the LORD which he did.
[8] Therefore shall ye keep all the commandments which I command you this
day, that ye may be strong, and go in and possess the land, whither ye go to
possess it;
[9] And that ye may prolong your days in the land, which the LORD sware unto
your fathers to give unto them and to their seed, a land that floweth with
milk and honey.
[10] For the land, whither thou goest in to possess it, is not as the land
of Egypt, from whence ye came out, where thou sowedst thy seed, and
wateredst it with thy foot, as a garden of herbs:
[11] But the land, whither ye go to possess it, is a land of hills and
valleys, and drinketh water of the rain of heaven:
[12] A land which the LORD thy God careth for: the eyes of the LORD thy God
are always upon it, from the beginning of the year even unto the end of the
year.
[13] And it shall come to pass, if ye shall hearken diligently unto my
commandments which I command you this day, to love the LORD your God, and to
serve him with all your heart and with all your soul,
[14] That I will give you the rain of your land in his due season, the first
rain and the latter rain, that thou mayest gather in thy corn, and thy wine,
and thine oil.
[15] And I will send grass in thy fields for thy cattle, that thou mayest
eat and be full.
[16] Take heed to yourselves, that your heart be not deceived, and ye turn
aside, and serve other gods, and worship them;
[17] And then the LORD's wrath be kindled against you, and he shut up the
heaven, that there be no rain, and that the land yield not her fruit; and
lest ye perish quickly from off the good land which the LORD giveth you.
[18] Therefore shall ye lay up these my words in your heart and in your
soul, and bind them for a sign upon your hand, that they may be as frontlets
between your eyes.
[19] And ye shall teach them your children, speaking of them when thou
sittest in thine house, and when thou walkest by the way, when thou liest
down, and when thou risest up.
[20] And thou shalt write them upon the door posts of thine house, and upon
thy gates:
[21] That your days may be multiplied, and the days of your children, in the
land which the LORD sware unto your fathers to give them, as the days of
heaven upon the earth.
[22] For if ye shall diligently keep all these commandments which I command
you, to do them, to love the LORD your God, to walk in all his ways, and to
cleave unto him;
[23] Then will the LORD drive out all these nations from before you, and ye
shall possess greater nations and mightier than yourselves.
[24] Every place whereon the soles of your feet shall tread shall be yours:
from the wilderness and Lebanon, from the river, the river Euphrates, even
unto the uttermost sea shall your coast be.
[25] There shall no man be able to stand before you: for the LORD your God
shall lay the fear of you and the dread of you upon all the land that ye
shall tread upon, as he hath said unto you.
[26] Behold, I set before you this day a blessing and a curse;
[27] A blessing, if ye obey the commandments of the LORD your God, which I
command you this day:
[28] And a curse, if ye will not obey the commandments of the LORD your God,
but turn aside out of the way which I command you this day, to go after
other gods, which ye have not known.
[29] And it shall come to pass, when the LORD thy God hath brought thee in
unto the land whither thou goest to possess it, that thou shalt put the
blessing upon mount Gerizim, and the curse upon mount Ebal.
[30] Are they not on the other side Jordan, by the way where the sun goeth
down, in the land of the Canaanites, which dwell in the champaign over
against Gilgal, beside the plains of Moreh?
[31] For ye shall pass over Jordan to go in to possess the land which the
LORD your God giveth you, and ye shall possess it, and dwell therein.
[32] And ye shall observe to do all the statutes and judgments which I set
before you this day. 

DEUTERONOMY 12
The One Place of Worship
1 (1Ki 8:40) These are the statutes and judgments which you shall be careful 
to observe in the land, which the Lord, the God of your fathers, has given 
you to possess, all the days that you live on the earth. 
2 (2Ki 16:4; Dt 7:5) You must utterly destroy all the places where 
the nations which you will possess served their gods, on the high mountains, 
and on the hills, and under every green tree. 
3 (Nu 33:52; Jdg 2:2) And you shall overthrow their altars, and break 
their pillars, and burn their Asherah poles

with fire, and you shall cut down the engraved images of their gods, 
and eliminate their names out of that place.
4 (Lev 20:23; Dt 16:21-22) You shall not act this way toward 
the Lord your God.
5 (2Ch 7:12; Dt 12:11) But you must seek only the place which the Lord 
your God shall choose out of all your tribes to establish His name, 
and there you must go. 
6 (Dt 15:19-20) There you shall bring your burnt offerings, your sacrifices, 
your tithes, the offerings of your hand, your vows, your freewill offerings, 
and the firstborn of your herds and of your flocks. 
7 (Dt 12:18; 14:26; Lev 23:40) There you must eat before the Lord your God, 
and you shall rejoice in all that you put your hand to, you and your 
households, where the Lord your God has blessed you.
8 (Jdg 17:6; 21:25) You are not to do all the things that we are doing here 
today, where every man does whatever is right in his own eyes. 
9 (Dt 25:19; 1Ki 8:56) For you have not yet come to the rest 
and to the inheritance which the Lord your God has given you. 
10 (Dt 11:31) But when you cross the Jordan, and dwell in the land 
which the Lord your God has given you to inherit, and when He gives 
you rest from all your enemies round about, so that you dwell in safety, 
11 (Dt 12:5; 15:20) then there will be a place which the Lord your God 
will choose to cause His name to dwell. There you must bring all that 
I command you: your burnt offerings, and your sacrifices, your tithes, 
the offering of your hand, and all your choice vows which you vow 
to the Lord. 
12 (Dt 12:7; 10:9) You will rejoice before the Lord your God, you, your sons, 
your daughters, your male servants, your female servants, and the Levite 
who is within your gates, for he has no portion or inheritance with you. 
13 Be careful that you do not offer your burnt offerings in every place 
that you see. 
14 (Dt 12:5; 12:11) Rather, in the place which the Lord will choose in one 
of your tribes, there you must offer your burnt offerings, and there you 
must do all that I command you.
15 (Dt 14:5) Notwithstanding, you may kill and eat meat within all your gates,
whatever your heart desires, according to the blessing of the Lord your God 
which He has given you. The unclean and the clean may eat of it, 
of the gazelle and of the deer, 
16 (Ge 9:4; Dt 15:23) only you must not eat the blood. 
You shall pour it on the ground like water. 
17 (Dt 12:6; 26:14) You may not eat within your gates the tithe of your grain,
your wine, your oil, the firstborn of your herds or of your flock, 
any of your vows which you vow, your freewill offerings, or the offering 
of your hand. 
18 (Dt 12:7; 14:23; 12:5) Rather you must eat them before the Lord your God
in the place which the Lord your God will choose-you, your son,
your daughter, your male servant, your female servant, and the Levite 
that is within your gates-and you shall rejoice before the Lord your God
in all that you undertake to do. 
19 Take heed to yourself that you do not forsake the Levite as long as you 
live on the earth.
20 (Dt 19:8; 11:24; Ge 28:14) When the Lord your God shall enlarge your
border as He has promised you, and you say, "I will eat meat," because 
you desire to eat meat, then you may eat as much meat as your heart desires. 
21 (Dt 12:5) If the place which the Lord your God has chosen to put His name
is too far from you, then you shall kill of your herd and of your flock, 
which the Lord has given you, as I have commanded you, 
and you must eat in your gates whatever your heart desires. 
22 Even as the gazelle and the deer are eaten, so you shall eat them. 
The unclean and the clean shall eat of them alike. 
23 (Ge 9:4; Lev 17:11) Only be sure that you do not eat the blood. 
For the blood is the life, and you may not eat the life with the meat. 
24 You must not eat it. You must pour it on the ground like water. 
25 (Ex 15:26; Dt 4:40) You must not eat it, so that it may go well 
with you and with your children after you, when you do that 
which is right in the sight of the Lord.
26 (Nu 5:9-10; 18:19) You shall take only your holy things which 
you have, along with your vows, and go to the place 
which the Lord shall choose. 
27 (Lev 1:9; 1:13) You must offer your burnt offerings, the meat 
and the blood, on the altar of the Lord your God, 
and the blood of your sacrifices will be poured out on the altar 
of the Lord your God, and you shall eat the meat. 
28 Observe and hear all these words which I command you, 
so that it may go well with you and with your children after you forever, 
when you do that which is good and right in the sight of the Lord your God.
29 (Jos 23:4; Dt 19:1) When the Lord your God shall cut off the nations from 
before you, where you go to possess them, and you dispossess them, 
and dwell in their land, 
30 (Dt 7:16) take heed to yourself so that you are not ensnared by following
them, after they have been destroyed before you, and that you not inquire 
after their gods, saying, "How did these nations serve their gods? 
Even so I will do likewise." 
31 (Jer 32:35; Lev 18:3) You shall not do so to the Lord your God, 
for every abomination to the Lord, which He hates, they have done 
to their gods. They have even burned their sons and their daughters
in the fire to their gods.
32 (Dt 4:2; Jos 1:7) Whatever I command you, be careful to do it. 
You shall not add to it or take away from it.

Deuteronomy 12
[1] These are the statutes and judgments, which ye shall observe to do in
the land, which the LORD God of thy fathers giveth thee to possess it, all
the days that ye live upon the earth.
[2] Ye shall utterly destroy all the places, wherein the nations which ye
shall possess served their gods, upon the high mountains, and upon the
hills, and under every green tree:
[3] And ye shall overthrow their altars, and break their pillars, and burn
their groves with fire; and ye shall hew down the graven images of their
gods, and destroy the names of them out of that place.
[4] Ye shall not do so unto the LORD your God.
[5] But unto the place which the LORD your God shall choose out of all your
tribes to put his name there, even unto his habitation shall ye seek, and
thither thou shalt come:
[6] And thither ye shall bring your burnt offerings, and your sacrifices,
and your tithes, and heave offerings of your hand, and your vows, and your
freewill offerings, and the firstlings of your herds and of your flocks:
[7] And there ye shall eat before the LORD your God, and ye shall rejoice in
all that ye put your hand unto, ye and your households, wherein the LORD thy
God hath blessed thee.
[8] Ye shall not do after all the things that we do here this day, every man
whatsoever is right in his own eyes.
[9] For ye are not as yet come to the rest and to the inheritance, which the
LORD your God giveth you.
[10] But when ye go over Jordan, and dwell in the land which the LORD your
God giveth you to inherit, and when he giveth you rest from all your enemies
round about, so that ye dwell in safety;
[11] Then there shall be a place which the LORD your God shall choose to
cause his name to dwell there; thither shall ye bring all that I command
you; your burnt offerings, and your sacrifices, your tithes, and the heave
offering of your hand, and all your choice vows which ye vow unto the LORD:
[12] And ye shall rejoice before the LORD your God, ye, and your sons, and
your daughters, and your menservants, and your maidservants, and the Levite
that is within your gates; forasmuch as he hath no part nor inheritance with
you.
[13] Take heed to thyself that thou offer not thy burnt offerings in every
place that thou seest:
[14] But in the place which the LORD shall choose in one of thy tribes,
there thou shalt offer thy burnt offerings, and there thou shalt do all that
I command thee.
[15] Notwithstanding thou mayest kill and eat flesh in all thy gates,
whatsoever thy soul lusteth after, according to the blessing of the LORD thy
God which he hath given thee: the unclean and the clean may eat thereof, as
of the roebuck, and as of the hart.
[16] Only ye shall not eat the blood; ye shall pour it upon the earth as
water.
[17] Thou mayest not eat within thy gates the tithe of thy corn, or of thy
wine, or of thy oil, or the firstlings of thy herds or of thy flock, nor any
of thy vows which thou vowest, nor thy freewill offerings, or heave offering
of thine hand:
[18] But thou must eat them before the LORD thy God in the place which the
LORD thy God shall choose, thou, and thy son, and thy daughter, and thy
manservant, and thy maidservant, and the Levite that is within thy gates:
and thou shalt rejoice before the LORD thy God in all that thou puttest
thine hands unto.
[19] Take heed to thyself that thou forsake not the Levite as long as thou
livest upon the earth.
[20] When the LORD thy God shall enlarge thy border, as he hath promised
thee, and thou shalt say, I will eat flesh, because thy soul longeth to eat
flesh; thou mayest eat flesh, whatsoever thy soul lusteth after.
[21] If the place which the LORD thy God hath chosen to put his name there
be too far from thee, then thou shalt kill of thy herd and of thy flock,
which the LORD hath given thee, as I have commanded thee, and thou shalt eat
in thy gates whatsoever thy soul lusteth after.
[22] Even as the roebuck and the hart is eaten, so thou shalt eat them: the
unclean and the clean shall eat of them alike.
[23] Only be sure that thou eat not the blood: for the blood is the life;
and thou mayest not eat the life with the flesh.
[24] Thou shalt not eat it; thou shalt pour it upon the earth as water.
[25] Thou shalt not eat it; that it may go well with thee, and with thy
children after thee, when thou shalt do that which is right in the sight of
the LORD.
[26] Only thy holy things which thou hast, and thy vows, thou shalt take,
and go unto the place which the LORD shall choose:
[27] And thou shalt offer thy burnt offerings, the flesh and the blood, upon
the altar of the LORD thy God: and the blood of thy sacrifices shall be
poured out upon the altar of the LORD thy God, and thou shalt eat the flesh.
[28] Observe and hear all these words which I command thee, that it may go
well with thee, and with thy children after thee for ever, when thou doest
that which is good and right in the sight of the LORD thy God.
[29] When the LORD thy God shall cut off the nations from before thee,
whither thou goest to possess them, and thou succeedest them, and dwellest
in their land;
[30] Take heed to thyself that thou be not snared by following them, after
that they be destroyed from before thee; and that thou inquire not after
their gods, saying, How did these nations serve their gods? even so will I
do likewise.
[31] Thou shalt not do so unto the LORD thy God: for every abomination to
the LORD, which he hateth, have they done unto their gods; for even their
sons and their daughters they have burnt in the fire to their gods.
[32] What thing soever I command you, observe to do it: thou shalt not add
thereto, nor diminish from it.

DEUTERONOMY 13
 
Idolatry

1 (Jer 27:9; 29:8) If a prophet or a dreamer of dreams arises among 
you and gives you a sign or a wonder, 
2 (Dt 18:22; Jer 28:9) and the sign or the wonder comes to pass 
concerning that which he spoke to you, saying, "Let us go after other gods,"
which you have not known, "and let us serve them,"
3 (Dt 8:2; 6:5) you must not listen to the words of that prophet 
or that dreamer 
of dreams, for the Lord your God is testing you, to know whether you love
the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul. 
4 (Dt 10:20; 2Ki 23:3; 2Ch 34:31) You must follow after the Lord your God, 
fear Him, and keep His commandments, obey His voice, and you must 
serve Him, and cling to Him. 
5 (1Co 5:13; Dt 17:7) That prophet or that dreamer of dreams must be put 
to death because he has spoken in order to turn you away from the Lord 
your God, who brought you out ofthe land of Egypt and redeemed you 
out of the house of bondage, to entice you away from the way in which 
the Lord your God commanded you to walk. So you must put the evil 
away from your midst.
6 (Dt 28:54; 1Sa 18:1) If your brother, the son of your mother, or your son, 
or your daughter, or your beloved wife, or your friend, who is as your 
own soul, entices you secretly, saying, "Let us go and serve other gods," 
which you have not known, neither you nor your fathers, 
7 namely, of the gods of the people who are all around you, near you 
or far away from you, from one end of the earth to the other end 
of the earth, 
8 (Pr 1:10; Dt 7:16) you shall not consent to him or listen to him, 
neither should your eye pity him, nor shall you spare or conceal him, 
9 but you must surely kill him. Your hand must be first upon him 
to put him to death, and afterwards, the hand of all the people. 
10 (Jos 7:25) You shall stone him with stones so that he dies 
because he has sought to entice you away from the Lord your God 
who brought you out of the land of Egypt, from the house of bondage. 
11 (Dt 19:20; 17:13) All Israel shall hear and fear and no more do any 
such wickedness as this among you.
12 If you hear it said in one of your cities, in which the Lord your God 
has given you to dwell, saying, 
13 (Dt 13:2; 13:6) "Certain men, the sons of wickedness, are gone out 
from among you and have seduced the inhabitants of their city, saying, 
'Let us go and serve other gods,'"   which you have not known, 
14 (Dt 17:4) then you shall inquire, search out, and ask diligently. 
If it be true and certain that such an abomination has been among you, 
15 (Ex 22:20; Lev 27:28) you shall surely put the inhabitants of that city 
to the sword, utterly destroying it, all that is in it and its livestock-with 
the edge of the sword. 
16 (Jos 8:28; Jer 49:2) You must gather all the spoils of it into the middle
 of the street and burn the city with fire along with all the spoils within 
it for the Lord your God, and it will be a heap forever.
It must not be rebuilt. 
17 (Ge 26:4; 26:24) Nothing of the cursed thing there must cling 
to your hand, so that the Lord may turn from the fierceness 
of His anger and show you mercy, have compassion on you, 
and multiply you, just as He swore to your fathers, 
18 (Dt 12:25; 12:28) if you listen to the voice of the Lord your God, 
to keep all His commandments which I command you today, and 
do that which is right in the eyes of the Lord your God.

Deuteronomy 13
[1] If there arise among you a prophet, or a dreamer of dreams, 
and giveth thee a sign or a wonder,
[2] And the sign or the wonder come to pass, whereof he spake unto thee,
saying, Let us go after other gods, which thou hast not known, 
and let us serve them;
[3] Thou shalt not hearken unto the words of that prophet, or that dreamer 
of dreams: for the LORD your God proveth you, to know whether ye love 
the LORD your God with all your heart and with all your soul.
[4] Ye shall walk after the LORD your God, and fear him, and keep his
commandments, and obey his voice, and ye shall serve him, and cleave unto him.
[5] And that prophet, or that dreamer of dreams, shall be put to death;
because he hath spoken to turn you away from the LORD your God, which
brought you out of the land of Egypt, and redeemed you 
out of the house of bondage, to thrust thee out of the way which the LORD 
thy God commanded thee to walk in. So shalt thou put the evil away from 
the midst of thee.
[6] If thy brother, the son of thy mother, or thy son, or thy daughter, 
or the wife of thy bosom, or thy friend, which is as thine own soul, 
entice thee secretly, saying, Let us go and serve other gods, 
which thou hast not known, thou, nor thy fathers;
[7] Namely, of the gods of the people which are round about you, 
nigh unto thee, or far off from thee, from the one end of the earth 
even unto the other end of the earth;
[8] Thou shalt not consent unto him, nor hearken unto him; neither shall
thine eye pity him, neither shalt thou spare, neither shalt thou conceal
him:
[9] But thou shalt surely kill him; thine hand shall be first upon him to
put him to death, and afterwards the hand of all the people.
[10] And thou shalt stone him with stones, that he die; because he hath
sought to thrust thee away from the LORD thy God, which brought thee out of

as some count slowness. But He is patient with us,
because He does not want any to perish, but all to come to repentance.
10 (Mt 24:35; Rev 21:1; 2Pe 3:7) But the day of the Lord will come like
a thief in the night, in which the heavens will pass away with
a loud noise, and the elements will be destroyed with intense heat.
The earth also and the works that are in it will be burned up.
11 (1Pe 1:15) Seeing then that all these things are to be destroyed,
what sort of people ought you to be in holy conduct and godliness,
12 (2Pe 3:10; Ps 50:3; Isa 34:4) while you are waiting for and desiring

[13] Nevertheless we, according to his promise, look for new heavens and a

Until 1967, units of time were scientifically measured by astronomical
 patterns: the spin of the earth and its revolution around the sun. But over 
 the centuries, a problem emerged. The earth is actually slowing down in its 
 orbit. Scientists discovered that the unit of the second is longer than it 
 used to be. Gradual though this is, since the days of Christ, the world 
 has "lost" a full three hours of measured time.

Of course, God created the ways we measure time: the astronomy of orbits and 
revolutions. Scientists' calculations may be squishier than we'd thought, 
but we can stand firmly in Peter's words: "With the Lord a day is like a 
thousand years" (2 Peter 3:8). He is arguing against doubters who complained 
that Jesus hadn't returned yet: "The Lord is not slow in keeping his promise, 
as some understand slowness" (v. 9). God works in His own time for His own 
purposes.

There's more! God's "timing" is born out of His love: "He is patient 
with you, not wanting anyone to perish" (v. 9). Jesus will return, 
and God wants everyone to have the opportunity to come to Him. This is an 
expression of His love. Meanwhile, we're to "make every effort to be found 
spotless" (v. 14). 

Time, God, and love are linked together: In these last 
days God's love is never squishy. It's the one sure thing.

Rom 8:1-2

Life in the Spirit

1 (1Co 1:30; 2Co 5:17) There is therefore now no condemnation
for those who are in Christ Jesus,
who walk not according to the flesh, but according to the Spirit.
2 (1Co 15:45; Ro 6:18; Jn 8:32) For the law of the Spirit of life
in Christ Jesus has set me free from the law of sin and death.

The Spirit of God Within You
1 There is therefore now no condemnation to them which are in Christ Jesus,
who walk not after the flesh, but after the Spirit.
2 For the law of the Spirit of life in Christ Jesus hath made me free
from the law of sin and death.

In the classic movie, I want to live! actress Susan Hayward
plays a woman convicted of murder and sentenced to be executed.
The suspense builds; the execution is delayed as the officials
wait for a word of pardon. Finally, the woman in executed;
the call comes, and the pardon has been granted, but it is too late.
When no pardon is granted, condemnation leads to death. Our sin
marks us as "guilty" before God, and we deserve the wages of sin,
which is death. But in Jesus Christ, the pardon does come - and
it comes in time. Our sin deserves condemnation by God, and yet
he forgives us because Christ paid the penalty for us,
But we face other kinds of condemnation as well - self-condemnation,
that internal accusation that we still, somehow, must pay the price
of our own sin. Others often condemn us as well, offering much less
forgiveness and mercy than God does. And the Enemy of our souls condemns
us, trying to convince us that we don't, after all, have real freedom
from sin.
Yet Paul tells us in Romans 8, "There is therefore now no condemnation
for those who are in Christ Jesus". God has forgiven us freely; he has
granted his pardon. And in light of his forgiveness, how can we live
under the condemnation of others - or even of ourselves?
We are free, Paul says - free from the "law of sin and death,"
free to live in the liberty of the Spirit. The stay of execution
has come: the pardon has been granted. Never again can we tried
for the same crimes: never again must we live under the burden
of condemnation.

Application

a) Have I ever lived under the burden of condemnation from myself
or others? Why?

b) How can Romans 8:1-2 help me live in freedom of such condemnation?

Quick facts on Muslims in Saskatchewan

CNMM Networks: Saskatoon

Saskatoon has seen quick growth in its Muslim population over the past
5 years, which maybe as high as 5000 today. Islamic leaders have 
focused specifically on this city , having twice already sent cohorts
of about 70 families to start mosques. There are now 7 Islamic centres
of worship and an ISlamic madrassah (school) located right next to a 
Christian school.
Of particular concern recently is the number of young adults who grew up
in evangelical churches and converted to Islam. Most of these are young
women who were wooed by Muslim man and became emotionally bonded. 
Both prior to and after marrying, these women are known to convert to ISlam.

Agree in prayer with us for:
- entire congregations and individual believers to catch God's heart
and passion for reaching Muslims in Saskatoon and the other growing
Muslim population centres of Saskatchewan.
- for the eyes and understanding of Canadian youth to be opened to the 
  spiritual reality of Islam, and not deceived nor manipulated into
  converting to a religion which cannot offer assurance of salvation. 
- for the few workers among Muslims now engaged there, and for many more
  to be raised up into effective witness.
- for prayer and training events that are starting in Saskatoon 
  to spread and grow to other cities.

Pray for the Nuba in South Sudan</a>

   Hussein belongs to the Nuba K'walip people and lives as a refugee in
   South Sudan with his mother and seven younger siblings. His father
   died in the war. Life in mud huts without electricity or running water
   is difficult, and disease is widespread.

   Until about three years ago, Hussein was an average Muslim who
   performed daily prayers with his neighbors. But then he heard about
   Jesus through a Ugandan believer. It took a lot of patience and many
   conversations to address Hussein's questions and misconceptions. Other
   believers mobilized prayer for him. Eventually, he came to understand
   who Jesus truly is and was baptized. Another Jesus follower walked
   with him for a year in discipleship. Now, Hussein leads a small house
   church among the Shatt, another Nubian people group who are largely
   unreached.

 One of the team writes: "This evening, I am on my way to the Shatt
   house church with Hussein. The small group meets in the shade of a
   house next to our school. Hussein reads the passage from Matthew where
   Jesus is led by the Spirit into the desert to be tempted by the devil.
   He then gives a short sermon. His friend, who is learning from him,
   then leads the group in prayer. There are many prayers of thanks, and
   Hussein and I go home feeling greatly encouraged."
   
   On the way back home, Hussein has questions about the Bible passage he
   read. He doesn't yet understand all of it himself, but he is hungry
   for God's Word and has a heart for Jesus and the people here. His love
   and faith in Jesus are evident to his friends, his family and his
   neighbors.

How to Pray

     * Pray for wisdom, strength, and spiritual growth for Hussein and
       other followers of Jesus.
     * Ask God to grow and multiply house churches among the Shatt
       people.
     * Pray that churches will be established amongst all the peoples who
       are refugees in South Sudan.

My paternal side is of Muslim heritage and will offer this section to further
call for Muslim converts to Christian and any other converts to Christianity
(Hindus, Jews, aboriginals Canadian, ...) .

One of the principles of the Kingdom of God is often described 
as the "already, not yet." It is a tension that every Christian lives in. We 
are in this world, but we are not of it. We are alive, yet we have crucified 
our lives with Christ. We are healed, yet we still need healing.

As 1 Corinthians 13:12 says, "For now we see only a reflection as in a mirror;
then we shall see face to face. Now I know in part; then I shall know fully, 
even as I am fully known."

As we near the end of our days of prayer and fasting, we may feel a tension 
that we have not seen the answers to prayer we hoped for. Maybe we asked for 
something dramatic, like a miracle. Or maybe, as we sought God, we expected to
feel something more, to overcome more, or to see clearer change.

In moments like these, I'm reminded of how Jesus taught us to pray in Matthew,
"Your kingdom come, your will be done, on earth as it is in heaven.” Even 
Jesus was not satisfied with the brokenness of the world as it was. He longed 
to see greater transformation, not only in the lives of His disciples, but in 
the world itself.

In Revelation, we are given a picture of what is still to come, where Jesus 
declares that He will make all things new. The things that remain unchanged, 
unshaken, and untransformed will one day be made new by Him.

We don't always know which areas God will renew while we are still here on 
earth. But we can trust that whether He does it now or later, the victory 
is already His. Hebrews 12:12 reminds us, 
"Therefore, strengthen your feeble arms and weak knees."

Our confidence grows when we understand that God is actively working on 
our behalf. He is doing a new thing. And He does not ask us to simply wait 
until eternity to believe this. He invites us to trust that He is already at 
work, doing something new in our lives, our families, our friends, 
our church, our city, and in the world.
