Matthew 8:5-13

The Healing of a Centurion's Servant

Lk 7:1-10; Jn 4:43-54

5 (Lk 7:1-10) And when Jesus entered Capernaum, a centurion
(Zec 9:9.) came to Him, entreating Him,
6 (Mt 4:24) and saying, "Lord, my servant is lying at home,
sick with paralysis, terribly tormented."
7 Jesus said to him, "I will come and heal him."
8 (Ps 107:20) The centurion answered and said, "Lord, I am not worthy
that You should come under my roof. But speak the word only,
and my servant will be healed.
9 For I am a man under authority, having soldiers under me.
And I say to this man, 'Go,' and he goes, and to another, 'Come,'
and he comes, and to my servant, 'Do this,' and he does it."
10 (Mt 15:28; Mk 6:6) When Jesus heard it, He was amazed
and said to those who followed, "Truly I say to you, I have not found
such great faith, no, not in Israel.
11 (Mal 1:11; Isa 59:19) And I say to you that many will come
from the east and west and will dine with Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob
in the kingdom of heaven.
12 (Mt 25:30; 13:42; 13:50) But the sons of the kingdom will be thrown
out into outer darkness. There will be weeping and gnashing of teeth."
13 (Mt 9:22) Then Jesus said to the centurion, "Go your way. And as you have
believed, so let it be done for you." And his servant was healed
that very moment.

[5] And when Jesus was entered into Capernaum, there came unto him a
centurion, beseeching him,
[6] And saying, Lord, my servant lieth at home sick of the palsy,
grievously tormented.
[7] And Jesus saith unto him, I will come and heal him.
[8] The centurion answered and said, Lord, I am not worthy that thou
shouldest come under my roof: but speak the word only, and my servant
shall be healed.
[9] For I am a man under authority, having soldiers under me: and I say
to this man, Go, and he goeth; and to another, Come, and he cometh; and
to my servant, Do this, and he doeth it.
[10] When Jesus heard it, he marvelled, and said to them that followed,
Verily I say unto you, I have not found so great faith, no, not in Israel.
[11] And I say unto you, That many shall come from the east and west,
and shall sit down with Abraham, and Isaac, and Jacob, in the kingdom of
heaven.
[12] But the children of the kingdom shall be cast out into outer darkness:
there shall be weeping and gnashing of teeth.
[13] And Jesus said unto the centurion, Go thy way; and as thou hast
believed, so be it done unto thee. And his servant was healed in the
selfsame hour. 

"Dad, can I spend the night with my friend?" my daughter asked, getting into 
the car after practice. "Honey, you know the answer," I said. "I'm just the 
driver. I don't know what's happening. Let's talk with Mom."  

"I'm just the driver" has become a joke in our home. Daily, I ask my organised
wife where I need to be, when, and whom I'm taking where. With three teens, my
"moonlighting" as a "taxi driver" sometimes feels like a second job. Often, 
I don't know what I don't know. So, I have to check in with the master 
calendar keeper.

In Matthew 8, Jesus encountered a man who also knew something about taking 
and giving instruction. A Roman centurion, this man understood that Jesus 
had the authority to heal, just as the centurion had authority to issue 
commands to those under him. "Just say the word, and my servant will be 
healed. For I myself am a man under authority, with soldiers under me" 
(vv. 8-9). Christ commended the man's faith (vv. 10, 13), amazed that 
he understood what His authority looked like in action.

So what about us? What does it look like to trust Jesus with our daily 
assignments from Him? Because even if we think we're "just the driver," each 
assignment has kingdom meaning and purpose.

Week 7 Promises of Grace - Day 1 Hard Bargain

Mark 11:24

24 Therefore I say to you, whatever things you ask when you pray,
believe that you will receive them, and you will have them.

24 Therefore I say unto you, What things soever ye desire, when ye pray,
believe that ye receive them, and ye shall have them.

"I've been praying." Jennifer declared confidently. " I told God I'd give him
a tithe of that $5000000 when I win the sweepstakes."
Her friend Cindi laughed. "Well, then, you don't have a chance. I told him
I'd give him half!"
Can we, as in Mark 11:24 seems to imply , pray for anything, absolutely
anything, and expect that the Lord will come through? Can we pray with
assurance for new cars, mink coats, or trips to the Caribbean? The verse
seems to be a troublesome one, especially when we try it and our prayers
aren't answered in the way we expected.
But seen in context, Mark 11:24 gives us a much broader picture of the
kind of prayer Jesus meant. The verse appears in the framework of
Jesus' ministry - cleansing the temple, correcting the Pharisees,
commanding forgiveness, discussing his authority. The condition for
the fulfillment of Mark 11:24, if Jesus' actions are any indication,
is fulfilling the will and purpose of God.
Such a condition for powerful prayers involves much more than attaching
am "If it be Thy will" clause onto the end of our prayers. We need to know
God's will and walk in it, seeking his kingdom first, and drawing close to
him. Then , as our hearts are right with him, what we ask in prayer
is likely to be congruent with the mind and purposes of Christ. We are
less likely to pray selfishly, and more likely to share God's priorities,
as we get to know him. And as we deepen in our knowledge of him,
as his will becomes our will, his promise for answered prayer takes
on new dimensions.

Remember God's promises when You pray

The Lord's prayer 

Matthew 6:9-13

Your will be done
on earth, as it is in heaven.

but deliver us from evil.

Muslim population (est.) 4543

Moncton, followed by Fredericton and Saint John, each have a growing Muslim
population in New Brunswick, In 2007, the building that was formerly a Baptist
church was converted into Moncton's 1st mosque. The University of Moncton
also has a Muslim student association hosting prayer services, fellowship
getherings, and outreaches on campus.
Fredericton also has one mosque and a Muslim student association serving the
campuses of the University of New Brunswick and St. Thomas University.
Fredericton's Muslim population consists in 2014 of about 50 families,
and between 300 to 400 university students.
Saint John is home to the 1st Muslim Association for the province,
which also helped foster the Islamic associations of Fredericton and Moncton.
a 'musalla', or prayer location that is not officially structured as a mosque,
has been established in the Uptown area with the intention of seeing it grow
into a 2nd official place of Muslim worship. Demand for this new location has
been primarily for university students moving into the area.

Pray for Muslims and New Brunswick
- that the eyes of pastors, believers and entire congregations will be opened
to see this growing body of Muslims, and their hearts will be opened
to sharing God's love in Jesus Christ with them

- that intentional ministries to Muslims will grow and flourish in these
areas of concentration

- that cooperative CNNMM Networks will form to really, encourage,
and equip believers to lovingly reach Muslims in this province.

When the new moon is sighted it marks the beginning of t he new Islamic month
and Eid al-Fitr, the "Festival of Breaking the Fast", will start! After 30 days
of fasting, the Eid celebration at the end of Ramadan is a joyful time that
usually lasts about 3 days. Muslims will buy new clothes, exchange gifts and,
of course, enjoy special foods. In Muslim-majority nations, the streets may be
decorated and festivals will be held.
For many Muslims, Eid-al-Fitr begins with communal prayers at daybreak and the
distribution of money (zakat) to the poor, which is one of the 5 pillars of
Islam.
You can greet Muslim friends during this time by saying "Eid Mubarak",
which means Blessed Eid!"
Ramadan is over for this year, but you can continue to pray for Muslims you
know, and Muslims around the world:
- Despite the unsettling developments in our world today that involve actions
in the name of Islam, there is at the same time a largely untold story about
unprecedented movement to Christ among Muslims. There have been more such
movements of thousands or more new disciples among Muslims in the last three
decades or so than in all the previous history of Christian Muslim
relationships! Pray for this momentum to continue.

Acts 2:12-17 : 17 12 They were all amazed and perplexed, saying to each other,
"What does this mean?"
13 (1Co 14:23) Others mocking said, "These men are full of new wine."

Peter's Speech at Pentecost

14 (Ac 1:26) But Peter, standing up with the eleven, lifted up his voice
and said to them, "Men of Judea and all you who dwell in Jerusalem,
let this be known to you, and listen to my words.
15 For these are not drunk, as you suppose,
since it is the third hour of the day.
16 But this is what was spoken by the prophet Joel:
17 (Isa 44:3; Ac 10:45) 'In the last days it shall be,' says God,
'that I will pour out My Spirit on all flesh;
your sons and your daughters shall prophesy,
your young men shall see visions,
and your old men shall dream dreams.'

- Pray for Christian workers an organisations focused on seeing effective
discipleship movements among Muslim people.

- Ask the Holy Spirit to continue to inspire you to have god's heart for
Muslims, to see them as He does, and to be the light that then to Jesus.

Matthew 5:14-15 : 14 "You are the light of the world. A city that is set on a
hill cannot be hidden. 15 Neither do men light a candle and put it under
a basket, but on a candlestick. And it gives light to all who are in the
house."

Ideas for prayer

- Pray for opportunities to show the love of Christ to Muslims around you
- Pray for, and offer generous hospitality to, those you know who are serving
Christ among Muslim people -

Romans 12:13 "contribute to the needs of the saints, practice hospitality."
- When you gather with fellow believers, remember to pray for Muslims
throughout the year and encourage them to also participate in 30 Days!

My paternal side is of Muslim heritage and will offer this section to further
call for Muslim converts to Christian and any other converts to Christianity

Conclusion:

Pray to the Lord and pray that the Lord will guide you through decisions of dissension.

Pray to the Lord and pray in intervention for you Country to come to the Lord.

Pray to the Lord: "Father, thank You that You lead me and guide my steps. 
Please help me to walk daily in dependence on You as You direct me 
according to Your plan and purpose."

Pray to the Lord and pray to understand the Lord's purpose in prayer.

Pray to the Lord and pray to be thankful for His Blessings.

Pray to the Lord and pray to rejoice in everything.

Pray for Muslims and New Brunswick
