Mark 3:7-19

The Crowd at the Seaside

7 (Mt 4:25; Lk 6:17) Jesus withdrew with His disciples to the sea.
And a great crowd followed Him from Galilee and Judea
8 (Eze 35:15; Isa 34:5) and Jerusalem, and Idumea, and from beyond the Jordan.
And those from Tyre and Sidon, a great crowd, when they heard
what great things He did, came to Him.
9 He told the disciples to have a small boat ready for Him
because of the crowd, lest they should crush Him.
10 (Mt 14:36; Mk 6:56) For He had healed many, so that all who had diseases
pressed on Him to touch Him.
11 (Mt 4:3; 14:33) When unclean spirits saw Him, they fell down before Him,
crying out, "You are the Son of God."
12 (Mt 12:16; Mk 1:25) But He sternly ordered them not to make Him known.

[7] But Jesus withdrew himself with his disciples to the sea: and a great
multitude from Galilee followed him, and from Judaea,
[8] And from Jerusalem, and from Idumaea, and from beyond Jordan; and they
about Tyre and Sidon, a great multitude, when they had heard what great
things he did, came unto him.
[9] And he spake to his disciples, that a small ship should wait on him
because of the multitude, lest they should throng him.
[10] For he had healed many; insomuch that they pressed upon him for to
touch him, as many as had plagues.
[11] And unclean spirits, when they saw him, fell down before him, and
cried, saying, Thou art the Son of God.
[12] And he straitly charged them that they should not make him known.

The Choosing of the Twelve Apostles

and they came to Him.
14 He ordained twelve to be with Him, and to be sent out to preach,
15 and to have authority to heal sicknesses and to cast out demons:

17 James, the son of Zebedee, and John, the brother of James,
whom he surnamed Boa­nerges (meaning Sons of Thunder);

The Choosing of the Twelve Apostles

and continued all night in prayer to God.

and of them He chose twelve, whom He named apostles:

Matthew 5:1-12

The Sermon on the Mount

And when He sat down, His disciples came to Him.

[1] And seeing the multitudes, he went up into a mountain: and when he was
set, his disciples came unto him:

The Beatitudes

Lk 6:20-23

2 (Mt 13:35; Ac 8:35) And He began speaking and taught them, saying:
3 (Isa 61:1; 66:2) "Blessed are the poor in spirit,
for theirs is the kingdom of heaven.
4 (Isa 61:2-3; Rev 21:4) Blessed are those who mourn,
for they shall be comforted.
5 (Ps 37:11; Ro 4:13) Blessed are the meek,
for they shall inherit the earth.
6 (Jn 4:14; 6:48-58) Blessed are those who hunger
and thirst for righteousness,

Luke 6:17-26

Ministering to a Great Crowd
Mt 4:23-25

17 (Mt 11:21) He came down with them and stood on a level place with a crowd
of His disciplesand a great crowd of people from all Judea and Jerusalem,
and from the seacoast of Tyre and Sidon, who came to hear Him
and be healed of their diseases,
18 including those who were vexed by unclean spirits. And they were healed.
19 (Mt 14:36; Mk 3:10) The whole crowd tried to touch Him, for power went out
from Him and healed them all.

[17] And he came down with them, and stood in the plain, and the company of
his disciples, and a great multitude of people out of all Judaea and
Jerusalem, and from the sea coast of Tyre and Sidon, which came to hear him,
and to be healed of their diseases;
[18] And they that were vexed with unclean spirits: and they were healed.
[19] And the whole multitude sought to touch him: for there went virtue out
of him, and healed them all.

Blessings and Woes
Mt 5:1-12

20 (Lk 12:32; Jas 2:5) He lifted up His eyes on His disciples, and said:
"Blessed are you poor,
for yours is the kingdom of God.
21 (Mt 5:4; Lk 6:25) Blessed are you who hunger now,
for you shall be filled.
Blessed are you who weep now,
for you shall laugh.
22 (Mt 10:22; Jn 16:2) Blessed are you when men hate you,
and when they separate you from their company and insult you,
and cast out your name as evil,
on account of the Son of Man.

Matthew 5:13-48

Salt and Light

Mk 9:50; Lk 14:34-35

13 (Lev 2:13; Lk 14:34-35) "You are the salt of the earth.
But if the salt loses its saltiness, how shall it be made salty?
It is from then on good
for nothing but to be thrown out and to be trampled underfoot by men.
14 (Jn 8:12; Pr 4:18) "You are the light of the world.
A city that is set on a hill cannot be hidden.
15 (Mk 4:21; Lk 8:16) Neither do men light a candle
and put it under a basket, but on a candlestick.
And it gives light to all who are in the house.
16 (1Pe 2:12; Mt 9:8; Jn 15:8) Let your light so shine before men
that they may see your good works and glorify your Father
who is in heaven.

[13] Ye are the salt of the earth: but if the salt have lost his savour,
wherewith shall it be salted? it is thenceforth good for nothing, but to be
cast out, and to be trodden under foot of men.

Teaching About the Law

17 (Ro 3:31; Mt 7:12) "Do not think that I have come to abolish the Law
or the Prophets. I have not come to abolish, but to fulfill.
18 (Lk 16:17) For truly I say to you, until heaven and earth pass away,
not one dot or one mark will pass from the law until all be fulfilled.
19 (Mt 11:11) Whoever, therefore, breaks one of the least of these
commandments and teaches others to do likewise shall be called the least
in the kingdom of heaven. But whoever does and teaches them shall
be called great in the kingdom of heaven.
20 (Php 3:9; Heb 12:14) For I say to you that unless your righteousness
exceeds the righteousness of the scribes and Pharisees, you will in
no way enter the kingdom of heaven.

[17] Think not that I am come to destroy the law, or the prophets: I am not
come to destroy, but to fulfil.
[18] For verily I say unto you, Till heaven and earth pass, one jot or one
tittle shall in no wise pass from the law, till all be fulfilled.
[19] Whosoever therefore shall break one of these least commandments, and
shall teach men so, he shall be called the least in the kingdom of heaven:
but whosoever shall do and teach them, the same shall be called great in the
kingdom of heaven.
[20] For I say unto you, That except your righteousness shall exceed the
righteousness of the scribes and Pharisees, ye shall in no case enter into
the kingdom of heaven.

Teaching About Anger

21 (Ex 20:13; Dt 5:17) "You have heard that it was said by the ancients,
'You shall not murder,'(Ex 20:13; Dt 5:17.) and 'Whoever murders shall be
in danger of the judgment.'
22 (Mt 10:28; 26:59) But I say to you that whoever is angry
with his brother without a cause shall be in danger of the judgment.
And whoever says to his brother, 'Raca,' shall be in danger of the Sanhedrin.
But whoever says, 'You fool,' shall be in danger of hell fire.
23 (Mt 8:4; 23:19) "Therefore, if you bring your gift to the altar
and there remember that your brother has something against you,
24 (Mk 9:50; Ro 12:17-18) leave your gift there before the altar
and go on your way. First be reconciled to your brother,
and then come and offer your gift.
25 (Pr 25:8; Lk 12:58-59) “Reconcile with your adversary quickly,
while you are on the way with him, lest your adversary deliver you
to the judge, and the judge deliver you to the officer,
and you be thrown into prison.

[21] Ye have heard that it was said by them of old time, Thou shalt not
kill; and whosoever shall kill shall be in danger of the judgment:
[22] But I say unto you, That whosoever is angry with his brother without a
cause shall be in danger of the judgment: and whosoever shall say to his
brother, Raca, shall be in danger of the council: but whosoever shall say,
Thou fool, shall be in danger of hell fire.
[23] Therefore if thou bring thy gift to the altar, and there rememberest
that thy brother hath ought against thee;
[24] Leave there thy gift before the altar, and go thy way; first be
reconciled to thy brother, and then come and offer thy gift.
[25] Agree with thine adversary quickly, whiles thou art in the way with
him; lest at any time the adversary deliver thee to the judge, and the judge
deliver thee to the officer, and thou be cast into prison.
[26] Verily I say unto thee, Thou shalt by no means come out thence, till
thou hast paid the uttermost farthing.

Teaching About Adultery

27 (Ex 20:14; Dt 5:18) "You have heard that it was said by the ancients,
'You shall not commit adultery.' [Ex 20:14; Dt 5:18. 28Job 31:1; 2Sa 11:2]
But I say to you that whoever looks on a woman to lust after her has
committed adultery with her already in his heart.

[27] Ye have heard that it was said by them of old time, Thou shalt not
commit adultery:
[28] But I say unto you, That whosoever looketh on a woman to lust after her
hath committed adultery with her already in his heart.

29 [Mt 18:8-9; Mk 9:43-48] And if your right eye causes you to sin,
pluck it out and throw it away. For it is profitable that
one of your members should perish, and not that your whole body be
thrown into hell.
30 [Mt 5:29] And if your right hand causes you to sin, cut it off
and throw it away. For it is profitable for you that one of your members
should perish, and not that your whole body be thrown into hell.

[29] And if thy right eye offend thee, pluck it out, and cast it from thee:
for it is profitable for thee that one of thy members should perish, and not
that thy whole body should be cast into hell.
[30] And if thy right hand offend thee, cut if off, and cast it from thee:
for it is profitable for thee that one of thy members should perish, and not
that thy whole body should be cast into hell.

Teaching About Divorce

Mt 19:9; Mk 10:11-12; Lk 16:18

31 (Jer 3:1; Mt 19:7) "It was said, 'Whoever divorces his wife,
let him give her a certificate of divorce.' [Dt 24:1, 3.]
32 (Lk 16:18; 1Co 7:10-11; Mt 5:28) But I say to you that whoever
divorces his wife,except for marital unfaithfulness,
causes her to commit adultery.
And whoever marries her who is divorced commits adultery.

[31] It hath been said, Whosoever shall put away his wife, let him give her
a writing of divorcement:
[32] But I say unto you, That whosoever shall put away his wife, saving for
the cause of fornication, causeth her to commit adultery: and whosoever
shall marry her that is divorced committeth adultery.

Teaching About Oaths

33 (Lev 19:12; Dt 23:21) "Again, you have heard that it was said
by the ancients, 'You shall not swear falsely,
but shall fulfill your oaths to the Lord.'

34 (Isa 66:1; Jas 5:12) But I say to you, do not swear at all:
neither by heaven, for it is God's throne;
35 (Ps 48:2) nor by the earth, for it is His footstool;

[37] But let your communication be, Yea, yea; Nay, nay: for whatsoever is

Teaching About Revenge

Lk 6:29-30

38 (Dt 19:21) "You have heard that it was said, 'An eye for an eye,
and a tooth for a tooth.' (Ex 21:24; Lev 24:20; Dt 19:21.)
39 (1Co 6:7; Isa 50:6) But I say to you, do not resist an evil person.
But whoever strikes you on your right cheek, turn to him the other as well.
40 And if anyone sues you in a court of law and takes away your tunic,
let him have your cloak also.

Love for Enemies

'You shall love your neighbor [Lev 19:18.] and hate your enemy.'
44 (Lk 23:34; Ac 7:60) But I say to you, love your enemies,
bless those who curse you, do good to those who hate you,
and pray for those who spitefully use you and persecute you,
45 (Mt 5:9; Lk 6:35) that you may be sons of your Father who is in heaven.
For He makes His sun rise on the evil and on the good
and sends rain on the just and on the unjust.
46 For if you love those who love you, what reward do you have?
Do not even the tax collectors do the same?
47 (Mt 5:20) And if you greet your brothers only, what are you doing
more than others? Do not even the tax collectors do so?
48 (Lev 19:2; Col 1:28) Therefore be perfect, even as your Father
who is in heaven is perfect. 

[43] Ye have heard that it hath been said, Thou shalt love thy neighbour,
and hate thine enemy.
[44] But I say unto you, Love your enemies, bless them that curse you, do
good to them that hate you, and pray for them which despitefully use you,
and persecute you;
[45] That ye may be the children of your Father which is in heaven: for he
maketh his sun to rise on the evil and on the good, and sendeth rain on the
just and on the unjust.
[46] For if ye love them which love you, what reward have ye? do not even
the publicans the same?
[47] And if ye salute your brethren only, what do ye more than others? do
not even the publicans so?
[48] Be ye therefore perfect, even as your Father which is in heaven is

Luke 6:27-36

Love for Enemies
Mt 5:38-48

27 (Lk 6:35; Pr 25:21-22) "But I say to you who hear, love your enemies,
do good to those who hate you,
28 (1Pe 3:9; Lk 23:34) bless those who curse you,
and pray for those who spitefully use you.
29 (Isa 50:6; La 3:30) To him who strikes you on the one cheek,
offer also the other. And from him who takes away your cloak,
do not withhold your tunic as well.
30 (Pr 21:26; Ex 22:26-27) Give to everyone who asks of you.
And of him who takes away your goods, do not ask for them back.
31 (Mt 7:12; Gal 5:14) Do unto others as you would have others do unto you.
32 "For if you love those who love you, what thanks do you receive?
For even sinners love those who love them.

Teaching About Charitable Giving

1 (Mt 23:5; 6:16) "Be sure that you not do your charitable deeds before men
to be seen by them. Otherwise you have no reward from your Father
who is in heaven.
2 (Mt 6:5; 6:16; Jn 5:44) "Therefore, when you do your charitable deeds,
do not sound a trumpet before you as the hypocrites do in the synagogues
and in the streets, that they may be honored by men. Truly I say to you,
they have their reward.
3 But when you do your charitable deeds, do not let your left hand know
what your right hand is doing,
4 (Mt 6:6; 6:18) that your charitable deeds may be in secret.
And your Father who sees in secret will Himself reward you openly.

[1] Take heed that ye do not your alms before men, to be seen of them:
otherwise ye have no reward of your Father which is in heaven.
[2] Therefore when thou doest thine alms, do not sound a trumpet before
thee, as the hypocrites do in the synagogues and in the streets, that they
may have glory of men. Verily I say unto you, They have their reward.
[3] But when thou doest alms, let not thy left hand know what thy right hand
doeth:
[4] That thine alms may be in secret: and thy Father which seeth in secret
himself shall reward thee openly.

1 Peter 2:21-25

The Example of Christ's Suffering

21 (Ac 14:22; Mt 16:24) For to this you were called, because Christ suffered
for us, leaving us an example, that you should follow His steps:
22 (Isa 53:9; 2Co 5:21) "He committed no sin,
nor was deceit found in His mouth."(Isa 53:9.)
23 (Isa 53:7; Lk 23:46) When He was reviled, He did not revile back; when He
suffered, He did not threaten, but He entrusted Himself to Him who judges
righteously.
24 (Ro 6:2; 6:11) He Himself bore our sins in His own body on the tree,
that we, being dead to sins, should live unto righteousness.
"By His wounds you were healed."(Isa 53:5).
25 (Isa 53:6; Ps 119:176)
For you were as sheep going astray, but now have been returned
to the Shepherd and Guardian of your souls.

[21] For even hereunto were ye called: because Christ also suffered for us,
leaving us an example, that ye should follow his steps:
[22] Who did no sin, neither was guile found in his mouth:
[23] Who, when he was reviled, reviled not again; when he suffered, he
threatened not; but committed himself to him that judgeth righteously:

George was working on a construction job in the heat of the Carolina summer 
sun when someone living nearby walked into the yard where he was working. 
Clearly angry, the neighbour began to curse and criticise everything about the
project and how it was being done. George received the verbal blows without 
response until the angry neighbour stopped yelling. Then he gently responded,
"You've had a really hard day, haven't you?" Suddenly, the angry neighbour's 
face softened, his head dipped, and he said, "I'm sorry for the way I spoke to
you." George's kindness had defused the neighbour's wrath.  

There are times when we want to strike back. To give abuse for abuse and 
insult for insult. What George modeled instead was a kindness seen most 
perfectly in the way Jesus bore the consequences of our sins: "When they 
hurled their insults at him, he did not retaliate; when he suffered, he made 
no threats. Instead, he entrusted himself to him who judges justly"
(1 Peter 2:23). 

All of us will face moments when we're misunderstood, misrepresented, or 
attacked. We may want to respond in kind, but the heart of Jesus calls us to 
be kind, to pursue peace and display understanding. As He enables us today, 
perhaps God could use us to bless someone enduring a hard day.

Week 7 Promises of Grace - Day 6 Humility and Exaltation

1 Peter 5:6-7

6 (Jas 4:10; Mt 23:12) Humble yourselves under the mighty hand of God,
that He may exalt you in due time.
7 (Ps 55:22; 37:5) Cast all your care upon Him, because He cares for you.

6 Humble yourselves therefore under the mighty hand of God,
that he may exalt you in due time:
7 casting all your care upon him; for he careth for you.

"I was so humble I was given an award for humility," the pastor quipped.
"They gave me a humility plaque - but they had to take it back when I hung it
on my office wall."
Humility is rare among 20th Century Christians. Our pride takes two
seemingly contradictory forms: Self-exaltation and self-denial. But both
focus on self, not on God.
Francois Fenelon, 17th century French archbishop, From his
"Letters of Spiritual Counsel" wrote:
"He who so completely forget himself that he never thinks of self ... is
truly humble. If we had the light to discern it, we should see clearly that
when we think we are humbling ourselves we are exalting ourselves;
when we think we are annihilating ourselves we are seeking out own life."
True humility, as Fenelon implies, means recognising who we are in the light
of who God is. Excess of self-importance and low self-esteem are both
self-centered perspectives; true humility is God-centered.
When we humble ourselves, we become intensely aware of God and less
aware of ourselves. We can focus on his face and get our eyes off our own
image. We can stop worrying about how others perceive us. Such humbling
is difficult - as one 70-year-old saint joked, "It ain't the heat that gets
you, it's the humility." But when we submit to him and fell the weight of the
"Mighty hand of God" upon us, we can forget ourselves, abandon
ourselves to his presence, and cast our cares upon him.

Application

Charlottetown does not currently (fall 2014) have a local CNMM network.
Pray with us for God's people to come together in reaching Muslims
cooperatively across denominational and organisational lines.

More than 200 attended the Eid festival at the end of Ramadan, the Islamic
month of fasting during daylight hours and the reading of the Qur'an, at
the Dar as-Salam mosque in 2014. This second mosque established
in Charlottetown, the other being the Muslims Association of PEI.
As of mid-2014,there are between 250 to 300 families, mostly in Charlottetown.

The Muslims of Charlottetown see their community as symbolically important
for this nation since this is known as the "birthplace of Canada". Yet we were
established as the "Dominion of Canada" with an appeal not only to
monarchial authority, but even more to God's higher Biblical authority as
shown in Psalm 72:8, "May he have dominion from sea to sea,
and from the River to the ends of the earth."
Let us intercede together for:

- the growing Muslim population of Charlottetown and spreading
outward through PEI to encounter the Prince of Peace.
- believers to have faith and vision to reach out to the Muslim Community
in contextual ways to share the Gospel
- churches and ministries to rise up in wisdom, knowledge and understanding,
giving and training, coaching and encouragement to believers reaching
out to Muslims locally.
- a prayer movement to be established, feeding a growing move of Yahweh's
Spirit in His churches and people , and an awakening an openness
and spiritual hunger in Muslims for relationship with the Father
through the Son.

When the new moon is sighted it marks the beginning of t he new Islamic month
and Eid al-Fitr, the "Festival of Breaking the Fast", will start! After 30 days
of fasting, the Eid celebration at the end of Ramadan is a joyful time that
usually lasts about 3 days. Muslims will buy new clothes, exchange gifts and,
of course, enjoy special foods. In Muslim-majority nations, the streets may be
decorated and festivals will be held.
For many Muslims, Eid-al-Fitr begins with communal prayers at daybreak and the
distribution of money (zakat) to the poor, which is one of the 5 pillars of
Islam.
You can greet Muslim friends during this time by saying "Eid Mubarak",
which means Blessed Eid!"
Ramadan is over for this year, but you can continue to pray for Muslims you
know, and Muslims around the world:
- Despite the unsettling developments in our world today that involve actions
in the name of Islam, there is at the same time a largely untold story about
unprecedented movement to Christ among Muslims. There have been more such
movements of thousands or more new disciples among Muslims in the last three
decades or so than in all the previous history of Christian Muslim
relationships! Pray for this momentum to continue.

Acts 2:12-17 : 17 12 They were all amazed and perplexed, saying to each other,
"What does this mean?"
13 (1Co 14:23) Others mocking said, "These men are full of new wine."

Peter's Speech at Pentecost

14 (Ac 1:26) But Peter, standing up with the eleven, lifted up his voice
and said to them, "Men of Judea and all you who dwell in Jerusalem,
let this be known to you, and listen to my words.

- Pray for Christian workers an organisations focused on seeing effective
discipleship movements among Muslim people.

- Ask the Holy Spirit to continue to inspire you to have god's heart for
Muslims, to see them as He does, and to be the light that then to Jesus.

Matthew 5:14-15 : 14 "You are the light of the world. A city that is set on a
hill cannot be hidden. 15 Neither do men light a candle and put it under
a basket, but on a candlestick. And it gives light to all who are in the
house."

Ideas for prayer

- Pray for opportunities to show the love of Christ to Muslims around you
- Pray for, and offer generous hospitality to, those you know who are serving
Christ among Muslim people -

Romans 12:13 "contribute to the needs of the saints, practice hospitality."
- When you gather with fellow believers, remember to pray for Muslims
throughout the year and encourage them to also participate in 30 Days!

My paternal side is of Muslim heritage and will offer this section to further
call for Muslim converts to Christian and any other converts to Christianity

Pray to the Lord and pray to start a Heritage of Godliness
seeking Him Kingdom first .

Pray to the Lord and pray to seek Him diligently.

Pray to the Lord and pray to be a doer of the Word.

about the Good News of Jesus.

Pray for evangelistic efforts taking place among the Shabak people,
a Muslim group in Iraq yet to be reached with the Gospel.

Pray to the Lord that to know the Holy Spirit.
and Seek ye first the Kingdom of God and His Righteousness.

Remember eternity starts now -
Pray for the direction you take to the Ever lasting loving God.
