Matthew 6:5-34

The Lord's Prayer
Lk 11:1-4

5 (Mt 6:2; 6:16; Mk 11:25) "When you pray, you shall not be like
the hypocrites. For they love to pray standing in the synagogues
and on the street corners that they may be seen by men.
Truly I say to you, they have their reward.
6 (2Ki 4:33; Isa 26:20) But you, when you pray, enter your closet,
and when you have shut your door, pray to your Father who is in secret.
And your Father who sees in secret will reward you openly.
7 (1Ki 18:26-29; Mt 6:32) But when you pray, do not use vain repetitions,
as the heathen do. For they think that they will be heard for their much
speaking.
8 (Mt 6:32; Ps 38:9 ) Do not be like them, for your Father knows
what things you have need of before you ask Him.
9 "Therefore pray in this manner:
Our Father who is in heaven,
hallowed be Your name.
10 (Mt 3:2; 4:17) Your kingdom come;
Your will be done
on earth, as it is in heaven.
11 (Pr 30:8; Isa 33:16) Give us this day our daily bread.
12 (Ex 34:7; Ps 32:1) And forgive us our debts,

but deliver us from evil.
For Yours is the kingdom and the power and the glory forever. Amen.

your heavenly Father will also forgive you.

neither will your Father forgive your sins.

Teaching About Fasting

16 (Mt 6:2; Ps 35:13) "Moreover, when you fast, do not be like
the hypocrites with a sad countenance. For they disfigure their faces
so they may appear to men to be fasting. Truly I say to you,
they have their reward.
17 (Ru 3:3) But you, when you fast, anoint your head and wash your face,
18 (Mt 6:4; 6:6) so that you will not appear to men to be fasting,
but to your Father who is in secret. And your Father who sees in secret
will reward you openly.

[16] Moreover when ye fast, be not, as the hypocrites, of a sad countenance:

Treasures in Heaven
Lk 12:33-34

19 (Heb 13:5; Lk 12:21) "Do not store up for yourselves treasures
on earth where moth and rust destroy and where thieves break in and steal.
20 (Lk 12:33; Mt 19:21)But store up for yourselves treasures in heaven, where
neither moth nor rust destroy and where thieves do not break in nor steal,
21 (Lk 12:34) for where your treasure is, there will your heart be also.

[19] Lay not up for yourselves treasures upon earth, where moth and rust
doth corrupt, and where thieves break through and steal:
[20] But lay up for yourselves treasures in heaven, where neither moth nor
rust doth corrupt, and where thieves do not break through nor steal:
[21] For where your treasure is, there will your heart be also.

The Light of the Body
Lk 11:34-36
22 "The light of the body is the eye. Therefore, if your eye is clear,
your whole body will be full of light.
23 (Mt 20:15; Mk 7:22) But if your eye is unclear, your whole body
will be full of darkness. Therefore, if the light that is in you is darkness,
how great is that darkness!

[22] The light of the body is the eye: if therefore thine eye be single, thy
whole body shall be full of light.
[23] But if thine eye be evil, thy whole body shall be full of darkness. If
therefore the light that is in thee be darkness, how great is that darkness!
God and Money

24 (Lk 16:13; 16:11; 16:9) "No one can serve two masters.
For either he will hate the one and love the other,
or else he will hold to the one and despise the other.
You cannot serve God and money.

[24] No man can serve two masters: for either he will hate the one, and love
the other; or else he will hold to the one, and despise the other. Ye cannot
serve God and mammon.

Care and Anxiety
Lk 12:22-34

25 (Mt 6:31; 6:34; Php 4:6) "Therefore, I say to you, take no thought
about your life, what you will eat, or what you will drink,
nor about your body, what you will put on.
Is not life more than food and the body than clothing?
26 (Job 38:41; Ps 147:9) Look at the birds of the air, for they do not sow,
nor do they reap, nor gather into barns.
Yet your heavenly Father feeds them. Are you not much better than they?
27 Who among you by taking thought can add a cubit
[A cubit is about half a meter.] to his stature?
28 (Mt 6:25; 6:31) "Why take thought about clothing? Consider the lilies
of the field, how they grow: They neither work, nor do they spin.
29 (1Ki 10:4-7; 2Ch 9:4-6) Yet I say to you that even Solomon
in all his glory was not dressed like one of these.
30 (Mt 8:26; 14:31) Therefore, if God so clothes the grass of the field,
which today is here and tomorrow is thrown into the oven,
will He not much more clothe you, O you of little faith?
31 (1Pe 5:7) Therefore, take no thought, saying, 'What shall we eat?'
or 'What shall we drink?' or 'What shall we wear?'
32 (Mt 6:8; Lk 12:30) (For the Gentiles seek after all these things.)
For your heavenly Father knows that you have need of all these things.

and His righteousness, and all these things shall be given to you.

Judging Others

Lk 6:37-38, 41-42

1 (Lk 6:37; Jas 4:11-12) "Judge not, that you be not judged.
2 (Mk 4:24; Lk 6:38) For with what judgment you judge, you will be judged.
And with the measure you use, it will be measured again for you.
3 (Jn 8:7-9) "And why do you see the speck that is in your brother's eye,
but do not consider the plank that is in your own eye?
4 Or how will you say to your brother,
'Let me pull the speck out of your eye,' when a log is in your own eye?
5 You hypocrite! First take the plank out of your own eye,
and then you will see clearly to take the speck out of your brother's eye.
6 (Mt 15:26; Pr 9:7-8) “Do not give what is holy to the dogs,
nor throw your pearls before swine, lest they trample them
under their feet and turn around and attack you.

[1] Judge not, that ye be not judged.
[2] For with what judgment ye judge, ye shall be judged: and with what
measure ye mete, it shall be measured to you again.
[3] And why beholdest thou the mote that is in thy brother's eye, but
considerest not the beam that is in thine own eye?
[4] Or how wilt thou say to thy brother, Let me pull out the mote out of
thine eye; and, behold, a beam is in thine own eye?
[5] Thou hypocrite, first cast out the beam out of thine own eye; and then
shalt thou see clearly to cast out the mote out of thy brother's eye.
[6] Give not that which is holy unto the dogs, neither cast ye your pearls

rend you. 

Luke 6:37-42

Judging Others
Mt 7:1-5

37 (Mk 11:25; Eph 4:32) "Judge not, and you shall not be judged.
Condemn not, and you will not be condemned.
Forgive, and you shall be forgiven.
38 (Ps 79:12; Mk 4:24) Give, and it will be given to you:
Good measure, pressed down, shaken together, and running over
will men give unto you. For with the measure you use,
it will be measured unto you."
39 (Mt 15:14) He spoke a parable to them: "Can the blind lead the blind?
Will they not both fall into the ditch?
40 (Jn 13:16; 15:20) The disciple is not above his teacher,
but everyone who is trained will be like his teacher.
41 (Jn 8:7) "Why do you see the speck that is in your brother's eye,
but do not see the beam that is in your own eye?
42 How can you say to your brother, 'Brother, let me remove the speck
that is in your eye,' when you yourself do not see the beam

First remove the beam from your own eye,
and then you will see clearly to remove the speck
that is in your brother's eye.

not be condemned: forgive, and ye shall be forgiven:
[38] Give, and it shall be given unto you; good measure, pressed down, and
shaken together, and running over, shall men give into your bosom. For with

Matthew 7:7-20

Ask, Seek, Knock
Lk 11:9-13

7 (Mt 21:22; Mk 11:24) "Ask and it will be given to you;
seek and you will find; knock and it will be opened to you.
8 For everyone who asks receives, and he who seeks finds,
and to him who knocks, it will be opened.
9 "What man is there among you who, if his son asks for bread,
will give him a stone?
10 Or if he asks for a fish, will he give him a snake?
11 (Ge 6:5; 8:21) If you then, being evil,
know how to give good gifts to your children,
how much more will your Father who is in heaven give good things
to those who ask Him!
12 (Lk 6:31; Ro 13:8-10; Lev 19:18) Therefore, everything you would
like men to do to you, do also to them,
for this is the Law and the Prophets.

[7] Ask, and it shall be given you; seek, and ye shall find; knock, and it
shall be opened unto you:
[8] For every one that asketh receiveth; and he that seeketh findeth; and to
him that knocketh it shall be opened.
[9] Or what man is there of you, whom if his son ask bread, will he give him
a stone?
[10] Or if he ask a fish, will he give him a serpent?
[11] If ye then, being evil, know how to give good gifts unto your children,
how much more shall your Father which is in heaven give good things to them
that ask him?
[12] Therefore all things whatsoever ye would that men should do to you, do
ye even so to them: for this is the law and the prophets.

The Narrow Gate

Lk 13:24

13 "Enter at the narrow gate, for wide is the gate
and broad is the way that leads to destruction,
and there are many who are going through it,
14 because small is the gate and narrow is the way which leads to life,
and there are few who find it.

[13] Enter ye in at the strait gate: for wide is the gate, and broad is the
way, that leadeth to destruction, and many there be which go in thereat:
[14] Because strait is the gate, and narrow is the way, which leadeth unto
life, and few there be that find it.

A Tree and Its Fruit
Lk 6:43-44

15 (1Jn 4:1; Mt 24:11; Col 2:8) "Beware of false prophets who come to you
in sheep's clothing, but inwardly they are ravenous wolves.
16 (Mt 12:33; Jas 3:12) You will know them by their fruit.
Do men gather grapes from thorns, or figs from thistles?
17 (Mt 12:33-35) Even so, every good tree bears good fruit.
But a corrupt tree bears evil fruit.
18 A good tree cannot bear evil fruit,
nor can a corrupt tree bear good fruit.
19 (Mt 3:10; Lk 3:9) Every tree that does not bear good fruit
is cut down and thrown into the fire.
20 (Mt 7:16) Therefore, by their fruit you will know them. 

[15] Beware of false prophets, which come to you in sheep's clothing, but

Luke 6:43-45

A Tree and Its Fruit

43 "A good tree does not bear corrupt fruit, nor does a corrupt tree
bear good fruit.
44 (Mt 12:33) Each tree is known by its own fruit. Men do not gather figs
from thorns, nor do they gather grapes from a wild bush.
45 (Eph 4:29) A good man out of the good treasure of his heart bears
what is good, and an evil man out of the evil treasure of his heart bears
what is evil. For of the abundance of the heart his mouth speaks. 

[43] For a good tree bringeth not forth corrupt fruit; neither doth a
corrupt tree bring forth good fruit.
[44] For every tree is known by his own fruit. For of thorns men do not

I Never Knew You
Lk 13:25-27

21 (Mt 25:11-12; Lk 6:46) "Not everyone who says to Me, 'Lord, Lord,' shall
enter the kingdom of heaven, but he who does the will of My Father
who is in heaven.
22 (Nu 24:4; Mal 3:17-18) Many will say to Me on that day,
'Lord, Lord, have we not prophesied in Your name,
cast out demons in Your name, and done many wonderful works in Your name?'
23 (Ps 6:8; Mt 25:41) But then I will declare to them,
'I never knew you. Depart from Me, you who practice evil.'Ps 6:8.

[21] Not every one that saith unto me, Lord, Lord, shall enter into the
kingdom of heaven; but he that doeth the will of my Father which is in
heaven.
[22] Many will say to me in that day, Lord, Lord, have we not prophesied in
thy name? and in thy name have cast out devils? and in thy name done many
wonderful works?
[23] And then will I profess unto them, I never knew you: depart from me, ye
that work iniquity.

The Two Housebuilders

Lk 6:47-49

24 (Lk 6:47-49) "Whoever hears these sayings of Mine and does them,
I will liken him to a wise man who built his house on a rock.
25 And the rain descended, the floods came, and the winds blew
and beat on that house. And it did not fall, for it was founded a rock.
26 And every one who hears these sayings of Mine and does not do them
will be likened to a foolish man who built his house on the sand.
27 And the rain descended, the floods came, and the winds blew
and beat on that house. And it fell. And its fall was great."
28 (Mk 1:22; 6:2) When Jesus finished these sayings,
the people were astonished at His teaching,
29 for He taught them as one having authority, and not as the scribes.

The Two Housebuilders

and does them, I will show whom he is like:
48 He is like a man who built a house, and dug deep,
and laid the foundation on rock. When the flood arose,
the stream beat vehemently against that house,
but could not shake it, for it was founded on rock.
49 But he who hears and does not obey is like a man who built
a house on the ground without a foundation,
against which the stream beat vehemently.
Immediately it fell, and the ruin of that house was great." 

[46] And why call ye me, Lord, Lord, and do not the things which I say?
[47] Whosoever cometh to me, and heareth my sayings, and doeth them, I will
shew you to whom he is like:
[48] He is like a man which built an house, and digged deep, and laid the

[49] But he that heareth, and doeth not, is like a man that without a

Psalm 107:1-9

for His mercy endures forever!
2 (Ps 63:1; 84:2) Let the redeemed of the Lord speak out,
whom He has redeemed from the hand of the enemy,
3 (Ps 79:10; 80:5) and gathered them from the lands,
from the east and from the west, from the north and from the south.
4 (Isa 30:29; Ps 62:8) They wandered in the wilderness on a deserted path;
they found no city to dwell in.
5 (Ps 42:11; 43:5) Hungry and thirsty,
their soul fainted in them.
6 (2Sa 17:22; Dt 3:8-9) Then they cried unto the Lord in their trouble,
and He delivered them out of their distresses.

[8] Oh that men would praise the LORD for his goodness, and for his
wonderful works to the children of men!
[9] For he satisfieth the longing soul, and filleth the hungry soul with
goodness. 

I opened the memory box and pulled out a small, silver lapel pin, the exact
size and shape of a ten-week unborn baby's feet. Caressing the ten tiny toes, 
I remembered the loss of my first pregnancy and those who said I was "lucky" I
wasn't "that far along." I grieved, knowing that my baby's feet were as real as
the heart that once beat inside my womb. I thanked God for freeing me from 
depression and using my story to comfort others who were grieving after losing 
a child. More than two decades after my miscarriage, my husband and I named 
the child we lost Kai, which in some languages means "rejoice." Though I still
ache from my loss, I thank God for healing my heart and using my story to help 
others.

The writer of Psalm 107 rejoiced in God's established character and sang: 
"Give thanks to the Lord, for he is good; his love endures forever" (v. 1). 
He urged "the redeemed of the Lord" to "tell their story" (v. 2), to "give 
thanks to the Lord for his unfailing love and his wonderful deeds for mankind"
(v. 8). He offered hope with a promise that God alone "satisfies the thirsty 
and fills the hungry with good things" (v. 9).

No one can escape grief or affliction, even those who've been redeemed through
Christ's sacrifice on the cross. We can, however, experience God's mercy as He
uses our stories to point others to His redeeming love.

Deut 33:27

He will drive out the enemy before you,

And underneath are the everlasting arms:
And he shall thrust out the enemy from before thee;
And shall say, Destroy them.

Misty was only 4 when her parents divorced. Her dad moved away,
and the following summer she went with her grandparents to visit him
in his new apartment. In the swimming pool one afternoon, Grandpa stood
Misty on the side of the pool, held out his arm, and called, "Jump!"
But Misty, normally a little fish, suddenly seemed afraid of the water,
and stood trembling on the sidewalk shaking her head.
"Jump, Misty - I'll catch you!"
"Are you sure, Grandpa?"
"Of course I'm sure! Jump!"
But Misty wouldn't jump. Finally Grandpa, a bit irritated, said, "Misty, do
you think I Won't catch you? Do you think I'll just walk away?"
The tears spilled over, and Misty sobbed. "Daddy did!"
Human support systems often fail us. We disappoint those we love, and
are disappointed by them. People simply aren't there for us
when we need them most.
But God promises that with him things are different. He's always there,
always listening, always caring, always ready to support us.
"Underneath his everlasting arms".
Sometimes those arms reach out clothed in flesh, in the warm embrace
of a loved one. Sometimes they support us through the Word, sometimes through
the quiet peace that comes in prayer. Sometimes we are not aware of them
at all, but they still hold us up, supporting, surrounding, loving.
Underneath us are the everlasting arms.

Application

a) Have I ever felt abandoned by someone I loved and depended upon?

b) How have I experienced the faithfulness of God's "Everlasting arms"?

c) Now can this verse help me in times when I feel my supports have given way?

Charlottetown does not currently (fall 2014) have a local CNMM network.
Pray with us for God's people to come together in reaching Muslims
cooperatively across denominational and organisational lines.

More than 200 attended the Eid festival at the end of Ramadan, the Islamic
month of fasting during daylight hours and the reading of the Qur'an, at
the Dar as-Salam mosque in 2014. This second mosque established
in Charlottetown, the other being the Muslims Association of PEI.
As of mid-2014,there are between 250 to 300 families, mostly in Charlottetown.

The Muslims of Charlottetown see their community as symbolically important
for this nation since this is known as the "birthplace of Canada". Yet we were
established as the "Dominion of Canada" with an appeal not only to
monarchial authority, but even more to God's higher Biblical authority as
shown in Psalm 72:8, "May he have dominion from sea to sea,
and from the River to the ends of the earth."
Let us intercede together for:

- the growing Muslim population of Charlottetown and spreading
outward through PEI to encounter the Prince of Peace.
- believers to have faith and vision to reach out to the Muslim Community
in contextual ways to share the Gospel
- churches and ministries to rise up in wisdom, knowledge and understanding,
giving and training, coaching and encouragement to believers reaching
out to Muslims locally.
- a prayer movement to be established, feeding a growing move of Yahweh's
Spirit in His churches and people , and an awakening an openness
and spiritual hunger in Muslims for relationship with the Father
through the Son.

When the new moon is sighted it marks the beginning of t he new Islamic month
and Eid al-Fitr, the "Festival of Breaking the Fast", will start! After 30 days
of fasting, the Eid celebration at the end of Ramadan is a joyful time that
usually lasts about 3 days. Muslims will buy new clothes, exchange gifts and,
of course, enjoy special foods. In Muslim-majority nations, the streets may be
decorated and festivals will be held.
For many Muslims, Eid-al-Fitr begins with communal prayers at daybreak and the
distribution of money (zakat) to the poor, which is one of the 5 pillars of
Islam.
You can greet Muslim friends during this time by saying "Eid Mubarak",
which means Blessed Eid!"
Ramadan is over for this year, but you can continue to pray for Muslims you
know, and Muslims around the world:
- Despite the unsettling developments in our world today that involve actions
in the name of Islam, there is at the same time a largely untold story about
unprecedented movement to Christ among Muslims. There have been more such
movements of thousands or more new disciples among Muslims in the last three
decades or so than in all the previous history of Christian Muslim
relationships! Pray for this momentum to continue.

Acts 2:12-17 : 17 12 They were all amazed and perplexed, saying to each other,
"What does this mean?"
13 (1Co 14:23) Others mocking said, "These men are full of new wine."

- Ask the Holy Spirit to continue to inspire you to have god's heart for
Muslims, to see them as He does, and to be the light that then to Jesus.

Matthew 5:14-15 : 14 "You are the light of the world. A city that is set on a
hill cannot be hidden. 15 Neither do men light a candle and put it under
a basket, but on a candlestick. And it gives light to all who are in the
house."

Ideas for prayer

- Pray for opportunities to show the love of Christ to Muslims around you
- Pray for, and offer generous hospitality to, those you know who are serving
Christ among Muslim people -

Romans 12:13 "contribute to the needs of the saints, practice hospitality."
- When you gather with fellow believers, remember to pray for Muslims
throughout the year and encourage them to also participate in 30 Days!
