Day 96 of My 5th Bible Ctudy Journey Part 1

Day 96, 6 April 2025 

Today at <a href="https://www.calvarycommunity.ca">Calvary Community 
Church</a>, Pastor Larry Janzen spoke on The Necessary Miracle based on
Acts 16:16-34

The Imprisonment in Philippi

16 (1Sa 28:7; 1Ch 10:13) On one occasion, as we went to the place of prayer,
a servant girl possessed with a spirit of divination met us,
who brought her masters much profit by fortune-telling.
17 (Mk 5:7; Da 3:26) She followed Paul and us, shouting,
"These men are servants of the Most High God,
who proclaim to us the way of salvation."
18 (Mk 16:17; 1:34) She did this for many days. But becoming greatly
troubled, Paul turned to the spirit and said,
"I command you in the name of Jesus Christ to come out of her."
And it came out at that moment.
19 (Ac 21:30; 8:3) When her masters saw that the hope of their profits
was gone, they seized Paul and Silas, and dragged them into the marketplace
to the rulers.
20 (Ac 28:22) And they brought them to the magistrates, saying,
"These men, being Jews, greatly trouble our city
21 (Est 3:8; Ac 16:12) and teach customs which are not lawful for us,
being Romans, to receive or observe."
22 (1Th 2:2; 2Co 6:5) The crowd rose up together against them.
And the magistrates tore the garments off them and gave orders to beat them.
23 After they had laid many stripes on them, they threw them into prison,
commanding the jailer to guard them securely.
24 (Job 13:27; 33:11) Having received such an order, he threw them into
the inner prison and fastened their feet in the stocks.
25 (Job 35:10; Ps 42:8) At midnight Paul and Silas were praying
and singing hymns to God, and the prisoners were listening to them.
26 (Ac 4:31; 12:7) Suddenly there was a great earthquake,
so that the foundations of the prison were shaken.
And immediately all the doors were opened
and everyone's shackles were loosened.
27 (Ac 12:19) When the jailer awoke and saw the prison doors open,
he drew his sword and would have killed himself,
supposing that the prisoners had escaped.
28 But Paul shouted, "Do not harm yourself, for we are all here."
29 He called for lights and rushed in, trembling,
and fell down before Paul and Silas.
30 (Ac 2:37; 22:10) He then led them out and asked,
"Sirs, what must I do to be saved?"
31 (Mk 16:16; Jn 1:12) They said, "Believe in the Lord Jesus Christ,
and you and your household will be saved."
32 And they spoke the word of the Lord to him
and to all who were in his household.
33 (Ac 16:15; 16:25) In that hour of the night he took them
and washed their wounds. And immediately he and his entire household
were baptized.
34 (Ac 2:46) Then he brought them up to his house and set food before them.
And he rejoiced with his entire household believing in God.
35 When it was day, the magistrates sent the sergeants, saying,
"Release those men."
36 (Ac 15:33) The prison guard reported these words to Paul, saying,
"The magistrates have sent to release you.
Now therefore depart, and go in peace."
37 (Ac 22:25-29) But Paul said to them, "They have publicly beaten us,
who are uncondemned Romans, and have thrown us into prison.
And now do they secretly throw us out? Certainly not!
Let them come themselves and bring us out."
38 (Ac 22:29) The sergeants reported these words to the magistrates,
and they were afraid when they heard that they were Romans.
39 (Mt 8:34) So they came and entreated them. And they brought them out,
asking them to leave the city.
40 (Ac 16:14) They went out of the prison and entered the house of Lydia.
When they had seen the brothers, they exhorted them and departed.

[16] And it came to pass, as we went to prayer, a certain damsel possessed
with a spirit of divination met us, which brought her masters much gain by
soothsaying:
[17] The same followed Paul and us, and cried, saying, These men are the
servants of the most high God, which shew unto us the way of salvation.
[18] And this did she many days. But Paul, being grieved, turned and said to
the spirit, I command thee in the name of Jesus Christ to come out of her.
And he came out the same hour.
[19] And when her masters saw that the hope of their gains was gone, they
caught Paul and Silas, and drew them into the marketplace unto the rulers,
[20] And brought them to the magistrates, saying, These men, being Jews, do
exceedingly trouble our city,
[21] And teach customs, which are not lawful for us to receive, neither to
observe, being Romans.
[22] And the multitude rose up together against them: and the magistrates
rent off their clothes, and commanded to beat them.
[23] And when they had laid many stripes upon them, they cast them into
prison, charging the jailor to keep them safely:
[24] Who, having received such a charge, thrust them into the inner prison,
and made their feet fast in the stocks.
[25] And at midnight Paul and Silas prayed, and sang praises unto God: and
the prisoners heard them.
[26] And suddenly there was a great earthquake, so that the foundations of
the prison were shaken: and immediately all the doors were opened, and every
one's bands were loosed.
[27] And the keeper of the prison awaking out of his sleep, and seeing the
prison doors open, he drew out his sword, and would have killed himself,
supposing that the prisoners had been fled.
[28] But Paul cried with a loud voice, saying, Do thyself no harm: for we
are all here.
[29] Then he called for a light, and sprang in, and came trembling, and fell
down before Paul and Silas,
[30] And brought them out, and said, Sirs, what must I do to be saved?
[31] And they said, Believe on the Lord Jesus Christ, and thou shalt be
saved, and thy house.
[32] And they spake unto him the word of the Lord, and to all that were in
his house.
[33] And he took them the same hour of the night, and washed their stripes;
and was baptized, he and all his, straightway.
[34] And when he had brought them into his house, he set meat before them,
and rejoiced, believing in God with all his house.
[35] And when it was day, the magistrates sent the serjeants, saying, Let
those men go.
[36] And the keeper of the prison told this saying to Paul, The magistrates
have sent to let you go: now therefore depart, and go in peace.
[37] But Paul said unto them, They have beaten us openly uncondemned, being
Romans, and have cast us into prison; and now do they thrust us out privily?
nay verily; but let them come themselves and fetch us out.
[38] And the serjeants told these words unto the magistrates: and they
feared, when they heard that they were Romans.
[39] And they came and besought them, and brought them out, and desired them
to depart out of the city.
[40] And they went out of the prison, and entered into the house of Lydia
and when they had seen the brethren, they comforted them, and departed.

Amazing Story?

i) Verse 18 - A Demon left her.
ii) Verse 25 - Paul and Silas was free because of the Earthquake
iii) vv 31-34 - Jailer's life was spared, then, more importantly,
				eternally save.
				
Four things here for our reflection	and application

A) There are miracles that happen all the time around us.

Ephesians 3:20-21


20 (Ro 16:25; Eph 3:7) Now to Him who is able to do exceedingly abundantly
beyond all that we ask or imagine, according to the power that works in us,
21 (Ro 11:36; 1Pe 5:11_ to Him be the glory in the church and in Christ Jesus
throughout all generations, forever and ever. Amen.

[20] Now unto him that is able to do exceeding abundantly above all that we
ask or think, according to the power that worketh in us,
[21] Unto him be glory in the church by Christ Jesus throughout all ages,
world without end. Amen.

B) They are always done with a prupose, and their purpose is
    much higher than we think.
	
Philippians 2:13-16



Shining as Lights in the World

13 (Heb 13:21; Ezr 1:5) For God is the One working in you, both to will
and to do His good pleasure.
14 (1Pe 4:9; 1Co 10:10) Do all things without murmuring and disputing,
15 (Mt 5:45; Dt 32:5) that you may be blameless and harmless, sons of God,
without fault, in the midst of a crooked and perverse generation, in which
you shine as lights in the world.
16 (Gal 2:2; 4:11) Hold forth the word of life that I may rejoice
on the day of Christ that I have not run in vain or labored in vain.

[13] For it is God which worketh in you both to will and to do of his good
pleasure.
[14] Do all things without murmurings and disputings:
[15] That ye may be blameless and harmless, the sons of God, without rebuke,
in the midst of a crooked and perverse nation, among whom ye shine as lights
in the world;
[16] Holding forth the word of life; that I may rejoice in the day of
Christ, that I have not run in vain, neither laboured in vain.
	
C) If we choose to participate, we accept the reality that in that purpose,
   as we live it, we are either the stench of Death, or a fragrant aroma to
   others arund us.
   
2 Corinthians 2:14-17

Paul's Anxiety in Troas

14 (SS 1:3; 2Co 8:16) Now thanks be to God who always causes
us to triumph in Christ and through us reveals the fragrance
of His knowledge in every place.
15 (1Co 1:18; Eze 20:41) For we are to God a sweet fragrance
of Christ among those who are saved and among those who perish.
16 (Lk 2:34; Jn 9:39) To the one we are the fragrance of death,
which brings death, and to the other the fragrance of life,
which brings life. Who is sufficient for these things?
17 (2Co 4:2; 1:12) For we are not as many are who peddle
the word of God. Instead, being sent by God, we sincerely speak
in Christ in the sight of God.

[14] Now thanks be unto God, which always causeth us to triumph in Christ,
and maketh manifest the savour of his knowledge by us in every place.
[15] For we are unto God a sweet savour of Christ, in them that are saved,
and in them that perish:
[16] To the one we are the savour of death unto death; and to the other the
savour of life unto life. And who is sufficient for these things?
[17] For we are not as many, which corrupt the word of God: but as of
sincerity, but as of God, in the sight of God speak we in Christ.


D) Each of the non-eternal miracles become pale in comparison to the one
   eternal and essential miracel! They are only the lead up, the set up
   for the highest one!
   
Ephesians 2:8-9

8 (Eph 2:5; Mk 16:16) For by grace you have been saved through faith,
and this is not of yourselves. It is the gift of God,
9 (2Ti 1:9; Ro 3:20) not of works, so that no one should boast.

[8] For by grace are ye saved through faith; and that not of yourselves: it
is the gift of God:
[9] Not of works, lest any man should boast.

RUTH 1

Naomi Loses

1 (Ge 12:10; 26:1) In the days when the judges ruled, there was a famine 
in the land. And a man from Bethlehem in Judah went to live in the land 
of Moab, he and his wife and his two sons. 
2 (Ge 35:19) The name of the man was Elimelek, the name of his wife 
was Naomi, and the names of his two sons were Mahlon and Kilion. 
They were Ephrathites from Bethlehem in Judah. And they went to Moab 
and lived there.
3 Now Elimelek, the husband of Naomi, died, 
so she was left alone with her two sons. 
4 (Mt 1:5) They took Moabite wives for themselves; the name of one
was Orpah and the name of the other Ruth. They lived there about ten years.
5 Then Mahlon and Kilion also died, and Naomi was left 
without her two sons and her husband.
6 (Ex 4:31; Ps 132:15) So she got up with her daughters-in-law to return 
from the land of Moab, for in the land of Moab, she had heard 
that the Lord had visited His people by giving them food. 
7 She set out from the place where she had been, 
with her two daughters-in-law, and they went on their way
to return to the land of Judah.
8 (Ru 1:5; 2:20) Then Naomi said to her two daughters-in-law, 
"Go, return each to her mother's house. May the Lord deal kindly 
with you, as you have dealt with your deceased husbands and with me. 
9 (Ru 3:1) May the Lord grant that you each find rest 
in the house of another husband."
Then she kissed them, and they raised their voices and wept aloud. 
10 They said to her, "We will return with you to your people."
11 (Ge 38:11; Dt 25:5) But Naomi said, "Turn back, my daughters. 
Why would you go with me? Are there sons in my womb, 
who could become your husbands? 
12 Turn back, my daughters! Go, for I am too old to have a husband. 
Even if I thought that there was still hope for me, that I could have 
a husband tonight and give birth to sons, 
13 (Jdg 2:15; Job 19:2) 1would you wait until they were grown? 
Would you refrain from getting married? No, my daughters. 
It is much more bitter for me than for you, for the hand of the Lord
has turned against me."
14 (Pr 17:17; 18:24) Then they raised their voices and wept aloud once more. 
Orpah kissed her mother-in-law, but Ruth clung to her.
15 (Jdg 11:24; Jos 24:15) Naomi said, "Look, your sister-in-law has returned 
to her people and her gods. Return with her!"
16 (Ru 2:11-12) But Ruth said, "Do not urge me to leave you or to turn back 
from following you. For wherever you go, I will go, and wherever you stay, 
I will stay. Your people shall be my people and your God my God. 
17 (1Sa 3:17; 25:22) Where you die, I will die, and there I will be buried. 
May the Lord do thus to me, and worse, 
if anything but death separates you and me!" 
18 (Ac 21:14) When Naomi saw that she was determined to go with her, 
she said no more to her.
19 (Mt 21:10) So they both went on until they came to Bethlehem. 
When they came to Bethlehem, the whole town was stirred because of them, 
and the women asked, "Is this Naomi?"
20 (Job 6:4) But she said to them, "Do not call me Naomi. Call me Mara, 
because the Almighty has brought great bitterness to me. 
21 (Job 1:21) I was full when I left, but the Lord has caused me to return 
empty. Why should you call me Naomi when the Lord has opposed me? 
The Almighty has brought misfortune upon me!"
22 (Ru 2:23; 2Sa 21:9) So Naomi returned from the land of Moab
 with Ruth the Moabite, her daughter-in-law. 
They came to Bethlehem at the start of the spring barley harvest.

Ruth 1
[1] Now it came to pass in the days when the judges ruled, that there was a

the country of Moab, he, and his wife, and his two sons.
[2] And the name of the man was Elimelech, and the name of his wife Naomi,
and the name of his two sons Mahlon and Chilion, Ephrathites of
Bethlehemjudah. And they came into the country of Moab, and continued there.
[3] And Elimelech Naomi's husband died; and she was left, and her two sons.
[4] And they took them wives of the women of Moab; the name of the one was
Orpah, and the name of the other Ruth: and they dwelled there about ten
years.
[5] And Mahlon and Chilion died also both of them; and the woman was left of
her two sons and her husband.
[6] Then she arose with her daughters in law, that she might return from the
country of Moab: for she had heard in the country of Moab how that the LORD
had visited his people in giving them bread.
[7] Wherefore she went forth out of the place where she was, and her two
daughters in law with her; and they went on the way to return unto the land
of Judah.
[8] And Naomi said unto her two daughters in law, Go, return each to her
mother's house: the LORD deal kindly with you, as ye have dealt with the
dead, and with me.
[9] The LORD grant you that ye may find rest, each of you in the house of
her husband. Then she kissed them; and they lifted up their voice, and wept.
[10] And they said unto her, Surely we will return with thee unto thy
people.
[11] And Naomi said, Turn again, my daughters: why will ye go with me? are
there yet any more sons in my womb, that they may be your husbands?
[12] Turn again, my daughters, go your way; for I am too old to have an
husband. If I should say, I have hope, if I should have an husband also to
night, and should also bear sons;
[13] Would ye tarry for them till they were grown? would ye stay for them
from having husbands? nay, my daughters; for it grieveth me much for your
sakes that the hand of the LORD is gone out against me.
[14] And they lifted up their voice, and wept again: and Orpah kissed her
mother in law; but Ruth clave unto her.
[15] And she said, Behold, thy sister in law is gone back unto her people,
and unto her gods: return thou after thy sister in law.
[16] And Ruth said, Intreat me not to leave thee, or to return from
following after thee: for whither thou goest, I will go; and where thou
lodgest, I will lodge: thy people shall be my people, and thy God my God:
[17] Where thou diest, will I die, and there will I be buried: the LORD do
so to me, and more also, if ought but death part thee and me.
[18] When she saw that she was stedfastly minded to go with her, then she
left speaking unto her.
[19] So they two went until they came to Bethlehem. And it came to pass,
when they were come to Bethlehem, that all the city was moved about them,
and they said, Is this Naomi?
[20] And she said unto them, Call me not Naomi, call me Mara: for the
Almighty hath dealt very bitterly with me.
[21] I went out full, and the LORD hath brought me home again empty: why
then call ye me Naomi, seeing the LORD hath testified against me, and the
Almighty hath afflicted me?
[22] So Naomi returned, and Ruth the Moabitess, her daughter in law, with
her, which returned out of the country of Moab: and they came to Bethlehem
in the beginning of barley harvest. 

RUTH 2

Ruth Meets Boaz

1 (Ru 3:2; 3:12) Now Naomi had a relative of her husband, 
a man of prominence and means from the clan of Elimelek. His name was Boaz.
2 (Lev 19:9; 23:22) Ruth the Moabitess said to Naomi, "Please let me go into
the field and glean among the heads of grain behind anyone 
in whose eyes I may find favor."
Naomi said to her, "Go, my daughter.." 
3 So she went to glean in the field behind the harvesters. She happened
to come to a part of the field belonging to Boaz, 
who was from the clan of Elimelek.
4 (Ps 129:7-8; Lk 1:28) Just then Boaz came from Bethlehem 
and said to the harvesters, "May the Lord be with you!"
And they said to him, "May the Lord bless you."
5 Then Boaz said to his servant who was in charge of his harvesters, 
"Whose young woman is this?"
6 (Ru 1:22) So the servant who was in charge of his harvesters answered, 
"She is the young Moabitess woman who came back with Naomi 
from the land of Moab. 
7 She said, 'Please let me glean and gather grain among the bundles 
behind the harvesters.' So she came and has remained from morning 
until now, though she rested a little while in the house."
8 Then Boaz said to Ruth, "Listen, my daughter. Do not go to glean 
in another field and leave this one. Stay close to my young women. 
9 Keep your eyes on the field in which they reap and follow after them. 
I have commanded the men not to touch you. When you are thirsty, 
go to the vessels and drink from what the young men have drawn."
10 (1Sa 25:23) So she fell on her face, bowed down to the ground, 
and said to him, "Why have I found favor in your eyes, 
that you should acknowledge me, a foreigner?"
11 Boaz answered and said to her, "I have been told all that you have done 
for your mother-in-law after the death of your husband, 
and how you left your father and mother and your homeland 
and came to a people you did not know before. 
12 (1Sa 24:19; Ru 1:16) May the Lord reward your deeds. 
May you have a full reward from the Lord, the God of Israel, 
under whose wings you have come to take refuge."
13 (Ge 33:15; 1Sa 1:18) Then she said, "May I find favor in your eyes, 
my lord, for you have comforted me and have spoken kindly 
to your servant, though I am not like one of your servant girls."
14 (Ru 2:18) At mealtime Boaz said to her, "Come over here, 
and eat some bread, and dip your piece in the vinegar."
So she sat down beside the harvesters, and he passed her some roasted grain.
She ate and was full and had some left over. 
15 When she got up to glean, Boaz commanded his young men, 
"Let her glean even among the bundles, and do not harm her. 
16 Also pull out some grain for her from the bundles and leave it 
so that she may glean it, and do not rebuke her."
17 So she gleaned in the field until evening. Then she beat out 
what she had gleaned, and it was about an ephah 
[Likely about 30 pounds, or 13 kilograms.] 
of barley. 
18 (Ru 2:14) She took it up and went into the city, and her mother-in-law 
saw what she had gleaned. She drew it out and gave her what she had left, 
after she had been satisfied.
19 (Ru 2:10; Ps 41:1) Her mother-in-law said to her, 
"Where did you glean today, and where did you work?
May he who took notice of you be blessed."
So she told her mother-in-law with whom she had worked, 
and said, "The name of the man with whom I worked today is Boaz."
20 (2Sa 2:5; Ru 3:9-10) Then Naomi said to her daughter-in-law, 
"May he be blessed of the Lord who has not withdrawn His kindness 
to the living and to the dead." Naomi said to her, "This man is 
a close relative of ours, one of our redeeming relatives."
21 Then Ruth the Moabitess said, "He even told me, 'You should stay close 
to my servants until they have finished all my harvest.' "
22 Naomi said to Ruth her daughter-in-law, 
"It is better, my daughter, that you go with his young women, 
for in someone else's field you might be harmed."
23 So she stayed close to the young women of Boaz to glean until 
the end of barley harvest and wheat harvest. 
And she lived with her mother-in-law.

Ruth 2
[1] And Naomi had a kinsman of her husband's, a mighty man of wealth, of the
family of Elimelech; and his name was Boaz.
[2] And Ruth the Moabitess said unto Naomi, Let me now go to the field, and
glean ears of corn after him in whose sight I shall find grace. And she said
unto her, Go, my daughter.
[3] And she went, and came, and gleaned in the field after the reapers: and
her hap was to light on a part of the field belonging unto Boaz, who was of
the kindred of Elimelech.
[4] And behold, Boaz came from Bethlehem, and said unto the reapers, The
LORD be with you. And they answered him, The LORD bless thee.
[5] Then said Boaz unto his servant that was set over the reapers, Whose
damsel is this?
[6] And the servant that was set over the reapers answered and said, It is
the Moabitish damsel that came back with Naomi out of the country of Moab:
[7] And she said, I pray you, let me glean and gather after the reapers
among the sheaves: so she came, and hath continued even from the morning
until now, that she tarried a little in the house.
[8] Then said Boaz unto Ruth, Hearest thou not, my daughter? Go not to glean
in another field, neither go from hence, but abide here fast by my maidens:
[9] Let thine eyes be on the field that they do reap, and go thou after
them: have I not charged the young men that they shall not touch thee? and
when thou art athirst, go unto the vessels, and drink of that which the
young men have drawn.
[10] Then she fell on her face, and bowed herself to the ground, and said
unto him, Why have I found grace in thine eyes, that thou shouldest take
knowledge of me, seeing I am a stranger?
[11] And Boaz answered and said unto her, It hath fully been shewed me, all
that thou hast done unto thy mother in law since the death of thine husband:
and how thou hast left thy father and thy mother, and the land of thy
nativity, and art come unto a people which thou knewest not heretofore.
[12] The LORD recompense thy work, and a full reward be given thee of the
LORD God of Israel, under whose wings thou art come to trust.
[13] Then she said, Let me find favour in thy sight, my lord; for that thou
hast comforted me, and for that thou hast spoken friendly unto thine
handmaid, though I be not like unto one of thine handmaidens.
[14] And Boaz said unto her, At mealtime come thou hither, and eat of the
bread, and dip thy morsel in the vinegar. And she sat beside the reapers:
and he reached her parched corn, and she did eat, and was sufficed, and
left.
[15] And when she was risen up to glean, Boaz commanded his young men,
saying, Let her glean even among the sheaves, and reproach her not:
[16] And let fall also some of the handfuls of purpose for her, and leave
them, that she may glean them, and rebuke her not.
[17] So she gleaned in the field until even, and beat out that she had
gleaned: and it was about an ephah of barley.
[18] And she took it up, and went into the city: and her mother in law saw
what she had gleaned: and she brought forth, and gave to her that she had
reserved after she was sufficed.
[19] And her mother in law said unto her, Where hast thou gleaned to day?
and where wroughtest thou? blessed be he that did take knowledge of thee.
And she shewed her mother in law with whom she had wrought, and said, The
man's name with whom I wrought to day is Boaz.
[20] And Naomi said unto her daughter in law, Blessed be he of the LORD, who
hath not left off his kindness to the living and to the dead. And Naomi said
unto her, The man is near of kin unto us, one of our next kinsmen.
[21] And Ruth the Moabitess said, He said unto me also, Thou shalt keep fast
by my young men, until they have ended all my harvest.
[22] And Naomi said unto Ruth her daughter in law, It is good, my daughter,
that thou go out with his maidens, that they meet thee not in any other
field.
[23] So she kept fast by the maidens of Boaz to glean unto the end of barley
harvest and of wheat harvest; and dwelt with her mother in law.

RUTH 3

Ruth's Redemption

1 (Ru 1:9) One day Naomi her mother-in-law said to her,
"My daughter, why should I not find a home that will be good for you? 
2 (Ru 2:8) Now is not Boaz our relative, with whose young women 
you have been working? Tonight he winnows barley on the threshing floor. 
3 (2Sa 14:2) Now wash and anoint yourself, and put on your best clothes. 
Then go down to the threshing floor, but do not let the man know 
you are there until he has finished eating and drinking. 
4 When he lies down, notice the place where he is lying. 
Go in and uncover his feet and lie down. He will tell you what you will do."
5 She said to her, "All that you say to me I will do." 
6 So she went down to the threshing floor and did all that 
her mother-in-law had instructed.
7 (Jdg 19:6; 19:9) When Boaz had eaten and drunk and his heart was merry, 
he went to lie down at the end of the heap of grain. 
Then Ruth came softly, uncovered his feet, and lay down. 
8 At midnight, the man was startled and rolled over; and there, 
a woman was lying at his feet.
9 (Ru 2:20; Eze 16:8) He said, "Who are you?"
And she answered, "I am Ruth, your maidservant. 
Spread your cloak over me, for you are a redeeming kinsman."
10 (Ru 2:20; 1:8) He said, "May you be blessed of the Lord, my daughter. 
You have shown your last act of kindness to be greater than the first, 
because you have not pursued young men, whether poor or rich. 
11 (Pr 12:4; 31:10) So now, my daughter, do not worry. All that you ask me, 
I will do for you. All of my fellow townsmen know that you are a woman 
of noble character. 
12 (Ru 4:1) Now it is true that I am a redeeming kinsman. 
Yet there is another redeemer closer than I am. 
13 (Jdg 8:19; Ru 4:5) Stay here tonight, and in the morning 
if he wants to redeem you, very well. Let him do so. 
Yet if he does not want to redeem you, then I will redeem you. 
I will, as the Lord lives! Sleep here until morning."
14 (Ro 14:16; 2Co 8:21) So she lay at his feet until morning, 
but she arose before one could recognize another. Then he said,
"It must not be known that a woman came to the threshing floor."
15 He said, "Bring me the shawl you have on you, and hold it."
So she held it, and he poured six measures of barley into it 
and placed it on her. Then she went into the city.
16 When Ruth came to her mother-in-law, Naomi said, 
"How did it go, my daughter?"
Then she told her all that Boaz had done for her. 
17 She said, "He gave me these six ephahs of barley, for he said to me, 
'Do not return to your mother-in-law empty-handed.' "
18 (Ps 37:3-5) Then Naomi said, "Wait here, my daughter, until you learn 
what happens. For the man will not rest until the matter is settled today."

Ruth 3
[1] Then Naomi her mother in law said unto her, My daughter, shall I not
seek rest for thee, that it may be well with thee?
[2] And now is not Boaz of our kindred, with whose maidens thou wast?
Behold, he winnoweth barley to night in the threshingfloor.
[3] Wash thyself therefore, and anoint thee, and put thy raiment upon thee,
and get thee down to the floor: but make not thyself known unto the man,
until he shall have done eating and drinking.
[4] And it shall be, when he lieth down, that thou shalt mark the place
where he shall lie, and thou shalt go in, and uncover his feet, and lay thee
down; and he will tell thee what thou shalt do.
[5] And she said unto her, All that thou sayest unto me I will do.
[6] And she went down unto the floor, and did according to all that her
mother in law bade her.
[7] And when Boaz had eaten and drunk, and his heart was merry, he went to
lie down at the end of the heap of corn: and she came softly, and uncovered
his feet, and laid her down.
[8] And it came to pass at midnight, that the man was afraid, and turned
himself: and, behold, a woman lay at his feet.
[9] And he said, Who art thou? And she answered, I am Ruth thine handmaid:
spread therefore thy skirt over thine handmaid; for thou art a near kinsman.
[10] And he said, Blessed be thou of the LORD, my daughter: for thou hast
shewed more kindness in the latter end than at the beginning, inasmuch as
thou followedst not young men, whether poor or rich.
[11] And now, my daughter, fear not; I will do to thee all that thou
requirest: for all the city of my people doth know that thou art a virtuous
woman.
[12] And now it is true that I am thy near kinsman: howbeit there is a
kinsman nearer than I.
[13] Tarry this night, and it shall be in the morning, that if he will
perform unto thee the part of a kinsman, well; let him do the kinsman's
part: but if he will not do the part of a kinsman to thee, then will I do
the part of a kinsman to thee, as the LORD liveth: lie down until the
morning.
[14] And she lay at his feet until the morning: and she rose up before one
could know another. And he said, Let it not be known that a woman came into
the floor.
[15] Also he said, Bring the vail that thou hast upon thee, and hold it. And
when she held it, he measured six measures of barley, and laid it on her:
and she went into the city.
[16] And when she came to her mother in law, she said, Who art thou, my
daughter? And she told her all that the man had done to her.
[17] And she said, These six measures of barley gave he me; for he said to
me, Go not empty unto thy mother in law.
[18] Then said she, Sit still, my daughter, until thou know how the matter
will fall: for the man will not be in rest, until he have finished the thing
this day.


RUTH 4

Boaz Marries Ruth

1 (Ru 3:12) So Boaz went up to the gate and sat down there. 
And now the redeemer of whom he had spoken passed by, 
and Boaz said, "Come over, friend, and sit here."
So he went over and sat down.
2 (1Ki 21:8; Pr 31:23) Then Boaz took ten men from among the elders 
of the town and said, "Sit here." So they sat down. 
3 He said to the redeemer, "Naomi, who has come back from the land of Moab,
must sell the plot of land belonging to our brother Elimelek. 
4 I thought I should inform you and say, 'Buy it in the presence of those 
sitting here and in the presence of the elders of my people. If you want 
to redeem it, redeem it. But if you will not redeem it, tell me 
so that I know, for there is no one prior to you to redeem it, 
and I am next after you.' "
So he said, "I will redeem it."
5 (Ge 38:8; Dt 25:5-6) Then Boaz said, "On the day you buy the field 
from the hand of Naomi, you also acquire Ruth the Moabitess, 
the wife of the deceased, to perpetuate the name of the deceased 
through his inheritance."
6 The redeemer replied, "I am not able to redeem it for myself lest
 I ruin my own inheritance. Take my redemption rights for yourself, 
for I cannot do it."
7 (Dt 25:7-10) (Now this was the custom in ancient times in Israel
 for redeeming and exchanging: to confirm a transaction, a man would 
remove his sandal and give it to his neighbor. 
This was a binding act in Israel.)
8 Therefore the redeemer said to Boaz, "Buy it yourself,"
and he removed his sandal.
9 Then Boaz said to the elders and all the people, "You are witnesses today 
that I have bought everything that belonged to Elimelek, Kilion, 
and Mahlon from Naomi. 
10 (Dt 25:6) Moreover I have also acquired Ruth the Moabitess, 
the wife of Mahlon, to be my wife, in order to preserve the name 
of the deceased man for his inheritance, so that his name will not be 
cut off from among his brothers or from his town. 
You are witnesses this day."
11 (Dt 25:9; Ge 29:32-30:24) Then all the people who were at the gate, 
along with the elders, said, "We are witnesses. May the Lord make the woman 
who is coming to your house like Rachel and Leah, who together built up 
the house of Israel. May you do well in Ephrathah and be famous in Bethlehem! 
12 (Ge 38:29; 46:12) May your house be like the house of Perez, 
whom Tamar bore to Judah, through the offspring 
that the Lord will give you by this young woman."

Ruth 4
[1] Then went Boaz up to the gate, and sat him down there: and, behold, the
kinsman of whom Boaz spake came by; unto whom he said, Ho, such a one! turn
aside, sit down here. And he turned aside, and sat down.
[2] And he took ten men of the elders of the city, and said, Sit ye down
here. And they sat down.
[3] And he said unto the kinsman, Naomi, that is come again out of the
country of Moab, selleth a parcel of land, which was our brother
Elimelech's:
[4] And I thought to advertise thee, saying, Buy it before the inhabitants,
and before the elders of my people. If thou wilt redeem it, redeem it: but
if thou wilt not redeem it, then tell me, that I may know: for there is none
to redeem it beside thee; and I am after thee. And he said, I will redeem
it.
[5] Then said Boaz, What day thou buyest the field of the hand of Naomi,
thou must buy it also of Ruth the Moabitess, the wife of the dead, to raise
up the name of the dead upon his inheritance.
[6] And the kinsman said, I cannot redeem it for myself, lest I mar mine own
inheritance: redeem thou my right to thyself; for I cannot redeem it.
[7] Now this was the manner in former time in Israel concerning redeeming
and concerning changing, for to confirm all things; a man plucked off his
shoe, and gave it to his neighbour: and this was a testimony in Israel.
[8] Therefore the kinsman said unto Boaz, Buy it for thee. So he drew off
his shoe.
[9] And Boaz said unto the elders, and unto all the people, Ye are witnesses
this day, that I have bought all that was Elimelech's, and all that was
Chilion's and Mahlon's, of the hand of Naomi.
[10] Moreover Ruth the Moabitess, the wife of Mahlon, have I purchased to be
my wife, to raise up the name of the dead upon his inheritance, that the
name of the dead be not cut off from among his brethren, and from the gate
of his place: ye are witnesses this day.
[11] And all the people that were in the gate, and the elders, said, We are
witnesses. The LORD make the woman that is come into thine house like Rachel
and like Leah, which two did build the house of Israel: and do thou worthily
in Ephratah, and be famous in Bethlehem:
[12] And let thy house be like the house of Pharez, whom Tamar bare unto
Judah, of the seed which the LORD shall give thee of this young woman. 

RUTH 4

The Genealogy of David

13 (Ge 29:31; 33:5) So Boaz took Ruth, and she became his wife. 
When they came together, the Lord enabled her to conceive, and she bore a son.
14 (Lk 1:58) Then the women said to Naomi, "Blessed be the Lord, who has not
left you without a redeemer. May he become famous in Israel! 
15 (1Sa 1:8) He will be a comfort for your soul and support you in your 
old age. For your daughter-in-law, who loves you and who is better 
to you than seven sons, has given birth to him."
16 Then Naomi took the child, laid him on her lap, and became his nurse. 
17 The neighbor women gave him a name, saying, "A son has been born to Naomi!" 
And they named him Obed. He was the father of Jesse, the father of David.
18 (1Ch 2:4-8; Mt 1:3-6) Now these are the descendants of Perez:
Perez was the father of Hezron,
19 Hezron the father of Ram,
Ram the father of Amminadab,
20 (Nu 1:7) Amminadab the father of Nahshon,
Nahshon the father of Salmon,
21 (Mt 1:5; Lk 3:32) Salmon the father of Boaz,
Boaz the father of Obed,
22 Obed the father of Jesse,
and Jesse the father of David.

[13] So Boaz took Ruth, and she was his wife: and when he went in unto her,
the LORD gave her conception, and she bare a son.
[14] And the women said unto Naomi, Blessed be the LORD, which hath not left
thee this day without a kinsman, that his name may be famous in Israel.
[15] And he shall be unto thee a restorer of thy life, and a nourisher of
thine old age: for thy daughter in law, which loveth thee, which is better
to thee than seven sons, hath born him.
[16] And Naomi took the child, and laid it in her bosom, and became nurse
unto it.
[17] And the women her neighbours gave it a name, saying, There is a son
born to Naomi; and they called his name Obed: he is the father of Jesse, the
father of David.
[18] Now these are the generations of Pharez: Pharez begat Hezron,
[19] And Hezron begat Ram, and Ram begat Amminadab,
[20] And Amminadab begat Nahshon, and Nahshon begat Salmon,
[21] And Salmon begat Boaz, and Boaz begat Obed,
[22] And Obed begat Jesse, and Jesse begat David.
