It depends on what you want to gain.
Managed switches often have features like enabling or disabling ports, port security, configuring Vlans (and als VLAN-Trunking). Most of them also support Spanning-Tree to avoid loops and get redundancy. If you have a bigger network, you need these features to make it reliable.
