I've been on Reddit. At first I subscribed to a couple of decent
subreddits like r/raspberrypi, r/pihole or r/GooglePixel, then
r/Tumpstweets (for a laugh), but then I started to add more and more,
like r/Europe, r/BuyFromEU, r/Belgium, which is a cesspool. Everybody
tries be 'the funny one', even when serious questions are asked. Even
worse, there's r/Belgium2 which is the same, but more racist.

At one point I got a warning for quoting Trump who said 'grab 'm by the
pussy' and later I got downvoted for correcting someone about Belgian
law (on a non Belgium group), even though I provided a source.

That was it for me. I found a script to delete all my messages (+6.000
by then) and then killed the account.

I had the same experience with Twitter. Fun at first, but then toxic as
hell. Not good for the mental health.

I sometimes take a look at a subreddit, but without an account I'm not
tempted to react anymore. Belgium is thinking of prohibiting access to
social media for children under 13 (even though it's a failure in
Australia). If that happens I'll probably be cut off 100%.
