And then couple that thought with the modern win-blows boot process, 
where MS races to the username/password screen as quickly as they can 
(still too slowly, but...) and only really actually finishes booting 
*after* the user has logged on.  Which is why a modern win box is often 
all but unusable for the first five to ten minutes after logging in 
from a cold startup.  It is still "booting" itself, and making you 
wait, it's just doing it after you have logged in instead of before you 
can log in.
