I was in a similar situation. I have Nvidia cards and generally have had no problems, at least as long as I use their proprietary drives. (Nouveau would lock up too often for me.) However, when I updated one machine to Debian Bookworm, it wouldn't accept the driver I was using; I upgraded to a newer driver and it wouldn't accept my graphics card. Replacing the graphics card with a newer model got things going again. >> I switched to AMD, and no more troubles.
