I don't think I've ever seen Spanish Manchego but I'll have to look closer 
in one of the stores that carries specialty cheeses. The pre-wrapped 
packages are rather small in hopes you won't realize how much per pound 
you're paying.

The version made in Mexico and the US is a mild cheese made from cows' 
milk and has been around far longer than the EU's PDO. There are many 
items in the Americas that were named after similar European products. I 
don't think anyone ever tried for PDO status but the US produces many more 
tons of 'cheddar' cheese than Britain. Some of it is quite good but almost 
any slop with an orange color might be called 'cheddar'.
