   I tend to agree. However, at least using somewhat
   higher-level langs, the file-system issues kind
   of fade a bit.

   FreeBSD is an old 'standard' - and there are a number
   of 'user improved' BSD issues that use FBSD as a base.
   FBSD can mount EXT(n) file systems too.
