  What operating system is she running?  If she's running Vista, there are some articles that may help you at the CNET Forums, or at:

  and there are others out there, too.  I get the impression that this is not uncommon in Vista, it seems that  in the desktop personalization options, there's apparently a way to delete the Recycle Bin altogether, which some people may confuse with emptying the Recycle Bin's contents.



  In XP, you can't manually delete the Recycle Bin from the desktop, so the issue mentioned above isn't a problem.  However, it could be that the Registry is corrupted. You could try any of the following to get it back.



  1.  Try doing a system restore back to just before the date and time when the Recycle Bin was lost.





  2.  Download Tweakui for Windows XP and follow the procedure described at

  or

  Again, there are similar articles out there, too.  All of the above articles came from Google searches.



  3.  There's a guy out there, Doug Knox, who's developed a .reg file which is supposed to replace lost or corrupted Registry entries related to the Recycle Bin.  According to him, if you import this .reg file into the Registry, reboot, then right-click the desktop and choose Refresh, you'll get the Recycle Bin icon back and the Recycle Bin itself should function normally.  I have the .reg file and can send it to you privately along with his recommended procedure.  If you want it, let me know and I'll send it to you off-list.
