At one time, this thing worried me also.  In reality, however, all you are 
removing, in deleting the icon, is a short-cut means of accessing the 
programm, 
audio stream, file, whatever.
And until you empty the recycle bin, you can always bring it back.
Keep in mind that I, personally, rather have more than less things in my 
menus, desktop, start menu, system tray, whatever as it makes it more 
convenient to get at things.
