I managed to hack it such that it shifts over the content rather than 
pushing the content away.  There is no delay.  If we assume that people
navigate there to see it, I doubt there is a point in a delay.
There is also not a permanent dropshadow.  Not sure about that.  We'll
discuss that when we have Jessica (the designer around).  Surely, this
is a lot less disturbing.
